    The overall chateau is beautiful.

I emailed the concierge and reception a month before my stay to confirm the availability of the winter activities listed on the website, as this trip was meant to be a winter holiday for my, my husband, and my two year old daughter. We were primarily interested in sledding, skating, and the sleigh rides. My daughter is too young for the snow shoeing and curling which is also listed. The reception and concierge let me know that the sleigh rides would not begin until Dec 20, but that all other activities would be available. When we arrived there, we received a map which showed where the sledding and skating was supposed to be. We got into our winter clothes and went out to those areas, only to be told that none of it was available during our stay. They had no available activities for kids and toddlers and other facilities were also closed. There was really nothing we could do as a family other than sit around and spend money on over priced food and alcohol. We wrote them an email about our disappointing experience and let them know that we would be leaving a night early to somewhere that was more family friendly. We requested a refund on our last night to which they never responded to. We spent over $1700 on the accomodations and another $700 on our food and beverage while there. To say the experience was disappointing is an incredible understatement. We have traveled to over ten countries with our little one and never had such poor communication and customer service. It was completely their responsibility to be forthcoming about what was available. Had we known, we would have picked another destination. I do not recommend. Worst Fairmont we've ever experienced. As an alternative, we highly recommend the omega parc wolf lodge. Amazing experience.

The location is on a lake, beautiful facilities in an old historical building. It’s the coziest place for a winter get away, kids welcome and the fireplace - perfect!

Great buffet for breakfast, dinner very good. Room, the courtains need to be changed, they fall all the time, and they are very old. they can change them keeping the same ambience.

There were somme dirty spaces, for exemple the toilette in the gym, there were some web spiders in the walls and the walls and floor were dusty. check out for the water leek in the tunel to the pool.

We ate dinner one evening at the restaurant in the hotel and the meal was exceptional. Also, the room and bed were comfortable.

The hot tubs were not functional, which was very disappointing. The room was comfortable, but the bathroom was small, the shower not great.

    8BunkerPosted on: 10-7-2025

The venue is picturesque and historic, and the rooms are no better or worse than any hotel that might be more modern or a hotel that does not charge prices based on its historic reputation. A reputation that affects the room rates and restaurant prices. Everything was clean and seemed to be reasonably well-maintained. Beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was quite modern and adequate. We liked the locale on the shore of the Ottawa River. The massive log building and central towering fireplace are amazing to look at. The surrounding grounds are large, beautifully treed and landscaped. The Chateau is a bit of Canadian History and is worthy of a visit. The staff were very congenial and helpful.

Restaurant prices are a little stiff, for example. Calling something by a fancy name or decorating a plate does not justify some of the prices. A burger is a burger. A pork burger should cost less than a beef burger. $32 for a pork patty and some regular type French fries was about the cheapest thing on the menu. There is absolutely nothing special about serving a patty on a Brioche bun. The fish and chips were fine, but saying they come from the Gaspe doesn't make the fish worth more than fillets from elsewhere. A few lower-priced, more family-oriented items and prices would be nice. Service was great, though.

Beautiful old hotel and the grounds were gorgeous

Rooms need updating. Drapes were falling off the track, room carpets were stained and worn, bathroom sink had a 12 inch crack and the door did not really shut well. The restaurant food was average to poor and very overpriced

A spectacular property. The service for our room was very good. Bathrobes were missing from our room. They were promptly delivered. The door on the very small fridge broke off. A maintenance worker dealt with it promptly too.

The taxes & resort fee for a 2 night stay totaled $245.00.
