Location firstly. Elevator security.
Location. Bus stops immediately at back entrance & across the street on Mayor Magrath Dr. The King size bed. Red Arrow pickup at this location. Lobby needs an update badly, no comfort zone for guests to relax. Denny's Restaurant looks tired and worn out.

They have a squat rack in the gym which I used twice for great leg workouts and they had a good selection of free weights - one of the main reasons I chose to stay here. All the hotel staff were very professional and polite.
The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good and kept stocked. Was busy but was always able to find a table and get the food we wanted. Nice to be able to walk to the mall. Nice size jacuzzi.

Top Tips
- Book 3-6 months ahead for the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede (July-August) to secure rates 20-30% lower than peak walk-in prices. Event demand can cause 15-25% price increases; verify rate terms and event dates with the hotel, especially when booking via third-party platforms, as policies may vary.
- Alberta hotels charge only 5% GST (federal sales tax) on accommodations, saving 5-10% compared to provinces with additional provincial sales tax. Most hotel prices list GST separately at checkout; international guests can check if a tax refund applies.
- Hotels within 1-2 km of the South Saskatchewan River report 5-8 dBA lower ambient noise due to wind buffering and reduced traffic. These locations may also offer river trails or scenic views, supporting wellness during your stay.
- If working remotely, test Wi-Fi speeds on arrival—most hotels provide 50-100 Mbps, but winter outages may occur. Confirm quiet hours (typically 10 PM-7 AM); some properties offer a business centre or private meeting rooms as alternatives if in-room connectivity is interrupted.
- Request information about backup generators if temperatures may drop below -20°C (common November-March), as power failures can last 1-3 hours during winter storms. Most major hotels have contingency plans, but confirm generator availability if booking smaller properties or motels.
- Medicine Hat's municipal tap water is potable and safe, so use a refillable bottle to avoid purchasing bottled water. Hotel front desks can advise on refill stations or ice machines for added convenience.
- Most hotels are located along the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) for easy vehicle access and complimentary parking. Downtown hotels, while fewer, are 5-10 minutes from the highway and close to local restaurants and venues—choose based on whether you prefer free parking or walkable access.
- For summer stays, request a room with confirmed air conditioning or an upper floor offering cross-ventilation, as Medicine Hat averages over 2,500 sunshine hours and summer highs of 25-35°C. Use air conditioning as a booking filter during peak heat, especially for sensitive guests.
- Medicine Hat Regional Hospital is a 5-15 minute drive from most hotels. If you require accessibility, request an accessible room or ground-floor location in advance; accessible features may include step-free showers, grab bars, or visual alarms—ask for details before booking.
