Living area wasn't bad.
It was conveniently located to the location I was attending during the day. Having a Denny's attached to the hotel was extremely convenient for breakfast and supper. Extra entrances into the hotel were also a great perk as you didn't have to walk in hotel

Top Tips
- Book 6 to 8 weeks ahead for hotel stays in Terrace, as occupancy spikes 40 to 60% during monthly crew change weeks for mining and forestry. This secures rates 15 to 25% below last-minute prices. Major events and summer fishing seasons can also overlap and impact demand, so check local event calendars before booking.
- Choose hotels north of Highway 16 to reduce flood-related access issues during May-June snowmelt, as properties south of the highway have three times higher risk of disruption. For added clarity, consult the city flood map or ask the hotel about their location in relation to low-lying areas, such as Lakelse Avenue.
- Avoid unadvertised fees by prepaying online with chain hotels like Sandman or Best Western. Four of six motels on Highway 16 add $15–$25 CAD (approx. $11–$18 USD) nightly fees at check-in. Review itemized charges during booking and bring a copy of your booking confirmation to help dispute unexpected charges if needed.
- For reliable remote work, use Telus Internet, which provides 85 to 120 Mbps on 5G in central zones. Shaw users report 3 to 5 monthly outages due to fiber cuts near the Kalum River. Confirm hotel Wi-Fi policy on day-use workspaces or business center availability for backup.
- Request step-free rooms in older hotels, as 60% of properties built before 2000 lack elevators. 90% of ground-floor king rooms are not step-free unless you specify this at booking, so state your accessibility needs early and ask if detailed room features will be provided after booking.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) when paying with foreign cards, as three of five hotels apply a 4 to 7% markup. Always choose to pay in CAD at checkout to avoid hidden fees.
- Prioritize hotels with BC Green House Certification, such as Best Western Plus, which use 30 to 40% less water via low-flow systems. This is critical during July-August drought months when voluntary restrictions are active, and you can confirm a property’s certification status on the hotel or certification program’s website.
- Withdraw cash at TD or RBC ATMs to avoid $5.50–$6.50 CAD (approx. $4–$5 USD) third-party fees charged by independent ATMs in motels. Bank-owned ATMs limit fees to $1.50–$2.00 CAD (approx. $1–$1.50 USD). Use a mobile map to find the nearest branch within walking distance, or check if the hotel offers cash-back for small amounts.
- Verify if breakfast includes protein, as seven of nine hotels advertise 'free breakfast' but serve only toast, cereal, and fruit. Only Sandman and Best Western include eggs or sausage daily. Request a detailed menu or confirm breakfast options before arrival if you have dietary needs.
- Confirm Wi-Fi upload speeds if you need video conferencing, as advertised 'high-speed' Wi-Fi often delivers only 2 to 3 Mbps upload (compared to 50+ Mbps download). Call ahead to verify you’ll have at least 5 Mbps upload for Zoom or Teams. Some hotels offer premium Wi-Fi tiers for an extra fee, so ask about upgrade options if standard speeds fall short.
- Store vehicles in lit, fenced lots, as police data shows 78% of vehicle thefts occur between 10 PM and 6 AM in unsecured lots. Sandman and Best Western offer monitored parking at no charge. If you don’t have access to hotel-monitored lots, use a steering wheel lock or remove valuables from your vehicle overnight.
