    • Very Quiet area. Really nice staff.
    • It was near my destination. but, so was the holiday in express.
    • The beautiful old house and rooms were so charming and comfortable. Fantastic food--very impressive breakfast (included!) with locally-sourced and organic foods. Staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating. Plus interesting history abounds.

    Cons -

    • Hotel was hodge podge. Main house should be used for rooms. No front desk staff after 5 pm. Nice morning light breakfast offered. Wish the room to enjoy breakfast wasn't down a hall and in a room with no outside windows for view.
    • This hotel was AWFUL! it seems they are halfway through renovation. Ladders and trash every ware - the grounds were treacherous. the room had no phone, no clock, no coffee -outlets not covered smelled link paint. no parking TOTALY OVERPRICED - ripoff
    • Really were no negatives, I had a lovely experience.

The staff went above and beyond for myself and other guests. The main house is beautiful and everything is clean if a bit worn. The food in the dining room was surprisingly good. The outside grounds were very nice and there is tons of character.

The service in the dining room was sincere and really tried hard but they need training in waiting on tables and dinner service. The people were so nice but just lacked training. This place could be a five star place with an infusion of a little money.

Old elegant property, fallen on hard times, working hard under new mgt to come back.

They have a ways to go

    Breakfast was nice.

Website was very deceiving. Looked much nicer than in person. Where not told we would not be in the Main House. Our room was tiny, smelled musty and a chair with stains all over it. Our window faced the parking lot. Parking lousy too.

Gem of an histstoric sight. Telescope and sundial invention history in an inderground bunker. How cool is that.? Charming hotel entry, lobby and seating area.

Customer service. Friendliness of staff. Good breakfast buffet. Shower water pressure.

Very thin walls did not block noise from the hallway and the room next door well.

The new owners! Very welcoming and amusing! The main building is on the historical register (registry?) and you can see it can be gorgeous. It is going to take time to bring it back from years of less than stellar care. I love historic buildings!

The room could have used a hair dryer. I would carry one, had I known. Again .... NEW owners. I expect things will gradually change. I didn't know the restaurant is not open every evening. No problem this trip and now I know.

This is a beautiful old home. Our room was however, located in a much more modern wing built to expand the number of rooms. The extension was much more charming inside than it looked from the outside and it was connected to the main house. Tyler was there to check us in and was quite friendly and helpful. He gave us a personal tour of the Harkness Porter Amateur Telescope Museum. It is a tribute to Harkness and his love and knowledge of telescopes. The museum is housed in a series of rooms connected by tunnels under the house. Harkness also built an articulated telescope in his yard and connected it to his workrooms through a 150 foot tunnel. We don’t eat breakfast, but the coffee was hot and good. There were some fruits, pastries and doughnuts available with the coffee.

Would have liked to be in the main house, but I didn’t realize this in our communication.

We loved 2nd night in the mansion

Forst night in the back section was OK; no refrig or coffee maker but was clean and updated.

Breakfast was lovely - simple but yummy. The location was easy to find and right on our way into Southern Vermont.

    Cable tv

There was no staff on duty overnight -- a bit odd and since they no longer have a restaurant on site, we didn't get the fresh pancakes I had gotten there so long ago -- even so, the continental breakfast they laid out was very nice.

We had a wonderful stay, the house is absolutely gorgeous. We were lucky enough to meet one of the owners and get a tour of the tunnels and a bit of the history on our first night in. It was fascinating and I highly recommend chatting with them if you get a chance. We stayed in the last room in the back but it is connected to the rest of the house through hallways and is easy to navigate. My friend and I went skiing while my boyfriend stayed in the house and explored the town. He had the house mostly to himself both days on a holiday weekend and he enjoyed being in the space reading and working. The house is not staffed all the time but it is set up to have everything you need and you can always call someone. The rooms were warm and cozy. They offer pasties and coffee for breakfast which was lovely. Short 20 min drive to Okemo. Copper fox in town is delicious for dinner. All in all a wonderful gem that we were lucky to find.

Easy check in process, friendly staff

Bathtub and shower curtain were dirty, not worth the $450/night given room and property quality

    6PatriciaPosted on: 8-21-2024

    Coffee, tea, fruit, pastry.

There was no one working on the premises the whole time we were there. Self check in. Stayed last year for a wedding. Much better experience.

The room was clean and comfortable. Beautiful lobby space.

The codes you are given to enter the building and your room appear to not be room-specific. We had strangers enter our room using their code in the middle of the night, which was very scary. The bar also closed over an hour early on a Saturday night by 8pm. It was disappointing as we came back from dinner looking forward to having a drink in the beautiful lobby.

Close to my parents house. Quite in the area of our room. Close by to everything we needed. Place was very clean. It was amazing to see a lot of older things withing the main lobby.

The beds were not comfortable to sleep on. There was no staff in the building. And while we were a party of 3, there might have only been maybe 2 other parties staying at the hotel. No Mini Fridge to keep cold drinks in.

    Manager was amazing

No breakfast kitchen closed. Minimal staff so we we re e greeted by an envelope taped to the front door. No personal attention. Not the kind of place for us.
