Pros +
- on think is not a hotel is a motel
- The location is excellent, the room was comfortable, and the desk staff was great.
- The room was cold & there was no heating. I had to ask the receptionist fir a heater. She gave us one from 2 centuries ago that stoped working after 10 seconds. Then she brought us a second that worked. She apologize for it but it’s not her responsibility to maintain the motel as it should.
Cons -
- The room smelled horrible. We actually had to drive to a grocery store to buy Febreze and a scented candle - and I hate scented candles.
- We were getting ready to leave the room on our first morning, and as we were going out the door we could see that the housekeeping staff had just passed our room as we were still in there. It was just 9:00 am. They saw us and asked if we needed anything, like towels or the garbage taken out. We said no, just the bed made. When we came back that evening at 9:00 pm, the room was untouched, the bed unmade. Not cool -- there was plenty of time to get to our room after we left.
- The closeness to the sea.

The closeness to the sea.
The continental breakfast was quite adequate, especially considering COVID times. There were bagels, English muffins, dry cereals, milk, coffee, tea, juices, butter, peanut butter, jams, cream cheese, pastries, etc. The rooms were all on ground level with parking right outside the doors. Saint Albans is a great locale - only half an hour to Burlington heading south, and about the same distance to the Canadian border heading north. There are great bike trails: the Colchester Causeway, the Burlington Waterfront and the Missisquoi one right in St. Albans are the three we particularly enjoyed. Up in Swanton there's a terrific wildlife preserve. The Champlain Islands are beautiful - we loved St. Anne's Shrine on Isle La Motte. There are many good restaurants right in Saint Albans, our favorite being Nourish. There's also a wonderful waterfront at St. Albans Bay, just a few miles from the Econo Lodge. We also looped into NYS a bit via Rouses Point, explored the Plattsburgh area, then took the year-round ferry (car and all) back to the Vermont side. Altogether a super location!
Due to COVID, the room was - of course - thoroughly sanitized. We were therefore grateful to have a window that readily opened and let some fresh air in. That was very helpful, especially since easily-opened windows are all too rare in many other places.
The bed was huge an super-comfortable, the whole place exceptionally clean, there was the choice of air conditioning or to open the window (I used both, at different times), there was a desk which I really need for work and meals, and the shower walls and sink were of a beautiful apricot-colored granite. Also, the staff are all really sweet people who had the advice I was needing for where to grab food and where the train was located. The Lodge is located less than a mile downtown; easy walk or straight on rt. 7 into an enchanting downtown complete with restaurants, grocery, shops and galkeries. Taylor park is beautiful; fountain, grassy hills, and musical performance space. The lobby of the motel has a really efficient breakfast with *excellent* Colombian coffee and breakfast treats, purified water and juices, and teas. It is a quiet, small establishment that meets all of the traveler’s needs in Saint Albans an the right price!
Room was clean good value for the price Great location
The room was clean and looked updated. The staff member was super friendly and welcoming. The continental breakfast was nice.
There wasn't much to not like, but I would suggest a larger selection for the continental breakfast, but it was still much appreciated for a little morning snack and coffee.
For a budget chain, I was pleàsantly surprised by the room. Is it a high end room? No, but I wasn't expecting that. It served it's purpose, was clean and felt safe. The staff was super friendly.
Faint odor if smoke in our non-smoking room.
Very clean. Staff was very friendly.
Didn't realize that VT still allows smoking in hotels and wound up with a smoking room. Was never offered a non-smoking/smoking choice. Washed EVERYTHING the moment we got home because the smell followed us.
person at front desk was very sweet and provided information about orchards in the area
EVERYTHING was bad. It smelled like smoke.
The person at the desk treated us like we were family. It was great and very friendly. I will be staying there again.
location and the room was clean and did not reak of smoke!
The room was clean except for the gunck on the blanket.
Nothing best.
I think Price line cheated us, by stating it is a two star hotel, it is never a two star hotel. Very bad, never expected this from priceline.
Clean and great room for tourist.
It was near my meeting place.
Room smelled bad of smokers.
Convenience.
Their claim in the AAA tour book to have an expanded continental breakfast is a farce!
Comfortable.
I would have rather had a non-smoking room but none were available.
Very good
