Friendly and quite
I am working here during the round top antiques show and all the hotels jack up their prices during this week which makes it hard to find an affordable placw while I work. Cottonwood Inn was the most affordable and the owners/staff are nice and attentive.

We were able to quickly and easily check in at 10:30pm after a long, 12-hour road trip. In the morning, we were able to go and get something to eat in the lobby. Even though the options were sparse, it was nice to have breakfast.

Top Tips
- Book Giddings hotels 2-3 months early for festivals like the Bluebonnet Festival in April when rates surge 20-25%, saving $15 to $30 USD per night compared to last-minute bookings.
- Factor in the 13-15% combined state and local hotel occupancy taxes in Giddings, which can add $15 USD nightly to a $100 USD base rate, exceeding the Texas average.
- Verify hotel Wi-Fi speeds of 20-50 Mbps for remote work, and consider a mobile hotspot for reliability during Giddings' occasional rural outages lasting 1-2 hours.
- Request rooms with air conditioning rated for 95-100°F (35-38°C) temperatures, common June-August, as some older motels may lack modern cooling systems.
- Use in-network ATMs at banks like Wells Fargo in Giddings to avoid $2-3 USD fees per withdrawal, which are higher than the national average.
- Book Giddings hotels during weekdays (Sunday-Thursday) for up to 20-30% lower rates, as weekend rates surge, especially during local events or state fairs.
- Consider hotels near US Highway 290, as most Giddings accommodations are clustered there, simplifying arrival and departure and access to local amenities.
- Confirm pet policies and fees, as some Giddings hotels charge a flat fee of $25-50 USD per stay, while others have daily charges of $10-15 USD.
- Plan for snacks or an earlier dinner if arriving late, as many dining options near Giddings hotels close by 9-10 PM.
- Book stays in Giddings at least 21 days in advance for 15-30% lower rates compared to last-minute bookings, with largest savings during peak work travel months (September-November, February-April).
- Choose hotels within 0.5 miles of I-10 exits 575-578 (e.g., La Quinta, Best Western) for under 2-minute access to the highway, ideal for transit-heavy itineraries.
- Request rooms facing away from Railroad Avenue along Highway 77 to reduce noise from active Union Pacific freight lines, which peak at 2-4 AM.
- Use Chase or Wells Fargo ATMs (at H-E-B and I-10 service plazas) to avoid $3-5 USD non-network fees common at independent ATMs in Giddings.
- Carry bottled water during summer (June-September) as municipal water pressure in Giddings occasionally dips, affecting 1 in 5 hotels for 2-4 hours.
- Avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) at card terminals by always selecting 'charge in USD' to prevent 4-7% inflated charges.
- Request step-free rooms in advance, as only Hampton Inn, Best Western, and La Quinta have elevators and ADA-compliant entrances.
- Tip housekeeping $2-5 USD per day in cash, left nightly, as unstaffed front desks at Giddings hotels mean tips left in the room are not tracked.
- Avoid booking during the Lee County Fair (late July) without a 6+ month lead, as hotel occupancy hits 95%+ and rates surge 40-60%.
- Prioritize hotels near H-E-B (e.g., Hampton Inn, La Quinta) as they regain power 30-50% faster during outages due to proximity to primary grid nodes.
- Book 3-4 months ahead for March’s Wurstfest to avoid 30-40% hotel rate hikes and secure rates below $120 USD per night.
- Opt for properties west of US-77 (e.g., Giddings Inn) for free parking, as most downtown hotels charge $10-15 USD per day.
- Verify ADA accessibility, as only 25% of Giddings hotels have step-free entrances; request step-free rooms at Best Western or La Quinta in nearby Coupland (32 km / 20 miles north).
- Withdraw cash from VFW Post 5120 ($2 USD fee for non-members) to avoid 2-3% Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) fees on card transactions at hotels.
- Confirm backup generators at hotels like Giddings Inn, as the area experiences 3-4 rolling blackouts per year during peak summer (June-August).
- Only 3 hotels in Giddings advertise truck/RV parking (e.g., Best Western); call ahead as others enforce street parking bans.
- Prefer motels near US-290 (e.g., Super 8) for faster Austin/Houston access, as I-10 entry is under 5 minutes versus 15 minutes from downtown.
- Review fine print for hidden resort fees of $10-15 USD per night at some national chain hotels despite limited facilities like no pool or gym.
- Confirm AC reliability in historic properties, as older motels (pre-1990s) may have window units, and summer temperatures exceed 95°F (35°C).
- Avoid ground-floor rooms at highway-adjacent motels, as noise from US-290 peaks 6-9 AM; upper floors can reduce decibel levels by about 30%.
- Bring your own toiletries to budget motels, as local independents often provide only soap and thin towels, unlike chains which stock full kits.
