    Pros +

    • The dinners and the waitstaff were great.
    • The comfort of our room, plus the front desk staff were really helpful and answered all our questions regarding the area events. Beautiful place. Thank you.
    • It¿s a well kept historically significant hotel in a town with a great personality!

    Cons -

    • We had a room for the three days and in the dining room the restaurant manager would not give my wife a box for her food so she could take it to the room. Really crappy a verified guest couldn?t take her food to the room.
    • The breakfast chef was really poor - almost burnt pancake, and same with the English muffin. The scrambled eggs were hardly recognizable. The drapes in our room were badly faded by the sunshine. Sheer curtains: one was torn & four inches shorter than
    • I meant to let the front desk know that after taking a bath in the Jacuzzi tub there was water on the floor. I did not overflow the top of the tub however I did over flow the overflow drain in which it is designed for.

It’s character and charm, I love old architecture and this really met my expectations.

I meant to let the front desk know that after taking a bath in the Jacuzzi tub there was water on the floor. I did not overflow the top of the tub however I did over flow the overflow drain in which it is designed for.

The history! While it is a fun and nice-enough place to stay, I can only imagine what it would have been like in its heyday. The atmosphere inside the hotel is a bit like what I would imagine that time-traveling adventure to be like.

The breakfast had all the setup for something awesome, it was a bit of a dud. The staff was very friendly, but the food was just pretty average (and not really their fault).

It is a piece of history! It brags the third elevator EVER west of Chicago. The bar had great happy hour AND breakfast food. And the rack of lamb in the restaurant was excellent. They even have a copy of the old movie Paint Your Wagon to enjoy

Nope, they even had big fluffy robes to use

Absolutely charming in every way, a trip back to the past. Beautiful room with every amenity, delicious meals for dinner and breakfast. Friendly, efficient staff.

    Location. Charming.

Seemed a little overpriced. Should have included a small breakfast, even continental. Should have also included water. Bottled or a jug in the common area. Bathroom didn't feel practical. Where were the towel hooks?

The hotel has so much history and the pictures are a great to see back when it was built over 120 years ago. The food was excellent. We had seen the hotel featured on Grant's Getaways and were looking forward to staying there.

Room was clean. Liked that they offered classes/events. My husband participated in the mixology class offered. Rooms were well insulated against sound so was very quiet.

Meals in the hotel were too expensive for the value. Lobby was dirty - carpet had not been vacuumed in who knows how long. Surfaces were dusty and windows and mirrors in lobby were streaked and grimy. Front desk clerk was not very welcoming - seemed bored and like we were an inconvenience. Was charged a $500 hold for incidentals which was a surprise and was not forewarned about. Since it was just a hold I expect this will be reversed but I was mot expecting it - seems a bit excessive. At least room was clean and rest of front desk staff for remainder of stay was friendly.

The restaurant was exceptional food but very slow. The cook apologized. The room was comfortable. The staff was courteous and the building is beautiful.

We paid for an extra bed. It was terrible. The roll away sunk in the middle and was back breaking ever for youngsters. Thecpaper products in the room ran out. Our breakfast took over and hour to serve and there were only 3 tables full of people in the restaurant.

    Historic property right downtown.

Food was not as good as I remembered a few years ago and service was way too long since we were the only diners for dinner and breakfast!

    10AliciaPosted on: 12-21-2025

Beautiful, well-maintained historical building with clean, large rooms, delicious food and very friendly staff.

Room HVAC was noisy. It blows on the chandelier which rattles and can wake up a light sleeper. Doors had gaps that let light in. The window on top of the door has a curtain which lets in light. Should just be painted over.Love the hotel.

    10JosephPosted on: 11-27-2025

Excellent service. Food was top notch. Felt like stepping into the past when everything was grand. Huge room with high ceilings and nice decor.

    8TerryPosted on: 11-23-2025

Nice elegant character property. With wonderful restaurant. Also wanted to mention the great and friendly service in the restaurant from the blond lady with the cap( can’t remember her name but she went out of her way to accommodate any of our wishes.

As to be expected with an older heritage building the bathroom sink area is very small and the room was a bit dark. We’ve stayed here many times so knew what to expect and we weren’t disappointed.
