Cons -
- Cleaning, it's not enough.
- Angry staff, tricky photo of kitchen is not separate place it inside woman place. Can’t sleep. Save money and go there
- Very noisy, staff wakes people who snore, and they woke me up every night when awakening other guests (I don't snore). I'm 6ft tall and I could barely fit in the bed. It's much narrower than a regular twin bed.

Staff were welcoming, upbeat, helpful. Location is good but gritty on the street level.
I read many of the review carefully because of the open ceiling, dormitory style room arrangement and none offered a glimpse into what to expect during the night. I stayed 5 nights and was woken at least once a night and, on some nights, several times by snoring, people making phone calls, people taking phone calls and peoples’ devices, alarms, noises from their devices going off in the middle of the night which, apparently, the same people didn’t hear because they did nothing to quiet their devices. Unbelievable lack of civility by many people who stay here. Bathrooms are funky, the place is rundown overall. I wouldn’t dream of staying here again.
I love the central location, the reasonable priced accommodations, the friendly staff, and love having apples, bananas and delicious scones in the morning.
Everything! Perfect for a solo traveler who respects towards others and surroundings.
There were a few guests who didn't seem to honor the house rules even AFTER they were reminded to respectfully follow the rules. Eventually they followed, which was a relief.
If you are after a budget hostel in the heart of New York City, m.j this is for you. This is decent if your goal is only to have a good place to stay for a few days. No much amenities but livable.
Some toielts are out of order. Minimal concern, though.
Close to Penn Station, delicious scones for breakfast and good prices for NYC.
The steep staircase isn’t easy to climb, especially with a suitcase.
location was perfect
privacy was not ok like other room guest snoring sound disturbed
Fantastic value in Manhattan. Very clean, tiny but cozy rooms (that lock), a peaceful, beautiful common area with free fruit and bread/bagels/cereal that you can have any time. The staff is very attentive, and while the neighborhood isn't gorgeous, it's centrally located and convenient. Plus you can volunteer on their community food program, which I enjoyed.
You can hear everyone around you perfectly, which.... isn't always ideal. And because of that, you have to be pretty quiet in the common area even in the day, so that inhibits socializing. And the beds are not for tall people - I'm 6'2" and it was tight.
The staff are very professional and kind with warm personalities. The included breakfast is homemade and tastes great. Their room arrangement is very unique and addresses a lot of the issues that hostels often have. The interfaith aspect is truly novel and helps separate them from any other hostel that I have stayed at.
Lots of stairs!
Location; courtesy of staff
Bed too small; noisy
Staffs were so nice
someone who stayed next to me was snoring, I was struggling with sleeping
The staff are so nice and helpful. The location is just two blocks from Penn Station and close to everything. The bountiful fruit offerings and breakfast were great...so thankful for vegetarian offerings. I will definitely stay again. Very nice and clean bathrooms, stocked with everything you need. Reminiscent of European hostels. Thank you!
I thought a bit pricey. I was cold during the night, but I arrived late and didn't want to wake anyone up. Maybe keep extras available.
It’s a friendly place with free breakfast and nice and helpful staff, location is ok but a few homeless people are usually around especially when it’s dark. Staff was very helpful and kind when I needed help with my booking.
I had the “room” right next to the staff and kitchen area and couldn’t sleep good, I don’t know if it was some of the guests or staff but all night I heard sounds even tho it’s supposed be quiet hour after 8. Couldn’t fall asleep because of guests checking in around 10pm and then the noises throughout the night. And I was wearing earplugs. If you’re a light sleeper it’s not the best option also on a busy street. Ok for a place to stay for a night.
Excellent location, few minutes walk from P. station. Calm and quite due to the travelers all committed to the house rules.
Not for exciting tourist who do not like self-management
Location and price were fair.
Room is smaller than normal toilet cubicle.Damp air and bed, thin wall, and not clean shared bathroom.Restriction of bring meat.
Warm and welcoming staff, comfortable bed/ exactly what I needed for an extremely affordable price.
I wasn’t expecting the open lattice-work ceiling, and there was a bit of a flood in the bathroom due to the rain
