The Whitby Hotel

The cleaning lady (I¿m terrible with spelling her name) was always the same lady all week. She was efficient, polite and organized my things as if she was in my own home to my liking. She did initiative in small things. Always polite and friendly.

They forgot my bfast on the one morning I had to be out the door. I had to call 3 different times to finally get someone to call me back about it.

Location, buzzy atmosphere/sophisticated and tasteful decor, the staff, very comfortable room, nothing appeared to be too much trouble.

Communal areas a bit limited for space. Lovely if no one else around but there always are people around.

I had to ask several times for a bed to be put in our room for our grown up daughter, even though I confirmed the booking was for three people prior to arrival . I found that the staff were ok , not great . I just felt their service was perfunctory and not the standard expected . Breakfast was again just ok . It could be so much better . Three people on a table designed for two is eminently unsuitable, especially when staff were so slow at removing dirty plates . Also the pastry and bread choices were very limited. Absolutely not value for money . Poor.

It would be nice to have a coffee/tea station in the room.It appears to be an American trend not to include breakfast in the rates as a given?All the taxes that are added on at the end, rates should include the taxes, after all they don’t change?

loved loved loved the interior. Bought two books by the designer which theybsell at the hotel. The rooms are beautiful and very spacious and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was delicious, breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner.

Beautiful, boutique feel hotel in the heart of mid-town. The bar/restaurant played live jazz on the night it arrived and a trio the following night. My room was a junior suite and it was spacious. Bathroom had. a deep tub with a TV.

The hotel has a high concept interior design - it's like walking into a Wes Anderson film. But I don't like Wes Anderson movies. Great attention to design details in the restaurant and main floor lobby. High quality fabrics used on the dining room chairs. Great subway access just one-half block away allows a two-stop arrival in the theater district.

Housekeeping was a total bust. They twice cleaned the room but neglected to refill the coffee maker with fresh capsules or take away the used ones. They also left our dirty coffee cups sitting on the credenza. And one night, after turndown service, there were long black hairs in one of the bathroom sinks - a total ick moment. The total paid for a four night stay was $6,000. That money would be better spent at the Baccarat which I plan to return to. Also, after one breakfast in the dining room, we vowed never to return.

The art decor, the location and the friendly staff who was there to help with everything and even very good recommendations.

The big rooms, lovely bathroom, comfy bed and the very beautiful bar area.
