Pros +
- My experience made every other hotel I have stayed at seem 5-Star! I paid over $----- for the night and checked out to sleep at a hotel staffed by sane people.
- Everything was at the top.
- The service is amazing, the rooms are beautiful and the beds are very comfortable, the famous King Cool bar is fantastic with a great vibe, they offer a delicious breakfast and the hotel has a lot of history, I recommend it.
Cons -
- The security guard Patrick banging on my hotel door demanding entry and falsely accusing me of smoking marihuana. I am a 55 year old man and my guest was a medical doctor. No phone call, No "Sorry to bother you sir..." Just an unhinged rent-a-cop. Wow!
- Compared to other luxury hotels, and in terms of quality and price, it did seem a bit expensive to me.
- Found the staff particularly at reception quite cold and rude. There is no communal area to sit and enjoy a drink and you have to queue to get entry for the bar which is far too small. For this type of price I would expect a much better experience from the staff and better facilities in communal areas. Really disappointing to be honest

Fantastic room. Super clean. Staff was superb. Location is outstanding. Room cleaning twice a day was fantastic.
Bathroom is excellent, just wish it was a bit larger. But otherwise super clean.
One of the beatiful places I stayed in. And for sure I am going to repeat this experience more often. The cleanness, the house keeping, the room service all are satisfying me. The hospitality is marked. I realy enjoied the stay with the fantastic location of the hotel.
The entrance and lobby area is very small, no area available for enjoying the atmosphere of the hotel with a cup of coffee, the in-dine food is not as the level of taste of the other Helton chain hotels.
Location was good and the staff were very willing to help
Breakfast was honestly not very good. Hot food had to come for another part of the hotel (which we didn't want to wait for) and what we did get was expensive
The location
Since that they say, the kitchen is under refurbishment, they had only a few cold cuts and salads etc to eat for breakfast or lunch and dinner. There is no coffee or tea in the room. There is no complimantory toothpaste, shaving kit etc. u have purchase them at the minibar. Our room was next to housekeepers room. They made so much noise in the mornings. Almost no lobby setting in the hotel. The bar closes at 23:00. And we paid over 1100 usd/day for this so called 5 stars hotel.
Never going back again. I wish I didn’t book.
Had an extremely unpleasant experience with staff member David at the hotel. He spoke to me extremely rudely and although I tried to have a proper conversation he behaved in a very intimidating and spoke in a verbally agressive tone . It really ruined my evening I was nearly going to cry. The other staff members in the hotel reception just looked and didn’t stop him. He even raised his voice in front of other guests in the hotel. I’m never going back to this hotel again. I’ve never experienced such behaviour and wouldn’t expect it from a 5 star hotel.
Excellent service and room amenities.
No coffee machine but private butler brought whatever you asked for. Couldn’t order breakfast night before or at least not using the app
The room was clean and the location is amazing
We knew about the renovation but there were zero options inside the hotel. No lobby, no bar, no restaurant, nowhere to have a coffee, no lounge.. nothing. Booking.com is selling rooms with executive lounge access... but there is no lounge. This is the only hotel in New York where you can't even have a coffee. If you want to visit this hotel; wait for one year at least.
The location and the room
The reception was being refurbed which we was not told about. This made checking in slightly difficult. The room had some items loose or “scuffed” although very minor we didn’t expect these from such a prestigious hotel.

Nothing, it’s like a motel. I never seen such bad service and also no one seems caring about the guest.
I never seen a hotel in my entire life that never serve a hot breakfast. Ordered eggs and they told me only we serve cold breakfast. Breads and jams. Why such luxury name and charging triple the price of other hotels can’t even serve a hot breakfast. There’s no coffee machine not enough water in the room. Some 3 star hotels gives much better services than them.
Location, comfort, beautiful hotel. Lovely Christmas decorations.
Price was very expensive.
I enjoyed the butler service it was great. The staff very nice and the feeling of warmth.
I didn’t like that I was told my room was an upgrade but we had to get a separate bed that wasn’t delivered on time. I had to walk to the front desk to ask for it to be delivered to my room. Considering the amount of money spent on the room, I would have expected this to be take care of prior. I’m was on a time crunch and we were exhausted so we had to take the time out of our day to get the bed delivered.
Location was amazing , outstanding customer service .. Mustapha from the Concierge team was very friendly and helpful !
A bit expensive
The room was spacious and very much like home. An old world charm and antiques everywhere.
They need more electrical outlets!! it is an old hotel built before the advent of mobile devices and all sorts of electrical needs.

WORST 1200$/night HOTEL IN NEW YORK I VE EVER BEEN
WORST EXPERIENCE IN A 5 star hotel I’ve ever had. The check in time was at 16:00. It was NYE, me and my partner arrived around 15:00 and gave all my information but the room wasn’t ready. They didn’t have a lobby area to wait so We had to sit at their Very small Bar and Order sth. Aka Spent More money if I wanted to not wait standing. After 1 hour and a half of waiting I went to check why my room wasnt ready. The queue in the meantime in the reception had reached at least 25 people. There were only 2 receptionists Because I had already done the check in at 15:00, I didnt want to wait in the back of 25 people to ask why my room wasnt ready and went to the concierge. They informed me without giving me ANY REASON that “My room wasnt ready because it wasnt ready”. I was being charged 1200$ per night for that room. I did make a scene to no avail! At 18:15 they gave us the keys. We go up and the room I waited for over 3 hours just to find that it smelled like VOMIT. DISGUSTING. I almost threw up myself. I call again and they say they WERE AWARE of it and they’ll try and find me another room! After another ANOTHER INEXCUSABLE 30min they gave me another room, which was a “better suite” from the one I had booked… that had an extra bathroom and living room. Which MEANT NOTHING FOR US. A bigger room doesnt make up for me having to spend 200$ to wait for 2.5 hours for my room, then giving me a room that somebody vomitted hoping I wont notice and then making me wait for another 30min to get me a CLEAN room! WHILST I PAY 1200$ a night! I ve never had a worst experience in a ALLEGEDLY 5 star Hotel. Food was awful, not even fast food level. Staff was indifferent, and they were understaffed. If you have ANY RESPECT for your money , your time and your comfort you shoulds find tens of other hotels that r respectful to u and the money u spent! SHAMEFUL ON EVERY LEVEL!
