Pros +
- It looked nice and I liked that it has a jazz club
- Location was good east access to a lot of different areas.
- Great location! Close to many attractions and transportation. Staff was excellent! Rooftop bar is very, very popular.
Cons -
- I didn’t like the undisclosed $45 daily fee. That should be part of the daily rate. It’s false advertising.
- Showing up early. Being told room was all ready but if I wanted early access I would need to pay 1/2 day rate for room. I don¿t think in 30 years coming to NY had I ever been charged for showing up early with a room being available that I would be charg
- The room was nice and adequate but a little smaller than what we're used to. This seems to be normal for NYC.

The location and the rooftop bar
The hotel and the room - all very dark Very dated decor Hotel not well taken care of Staff in Rooftop bar were rude We would never stay there again or recommend it to anyone
Great location and quirky hotel. Reasonably priced for 5* in location.
Only one person serving check in. Lifts were slow. Private parties dominated bars and rooftop bar taken over with non residents. Ice machine didn¿t work. Temperature of shower intermittent hot and warm.
The location is great and room was spacious.
The fire alarm went off multiple times during our first night right at midnight and also in the morning. We did not receive any apology and no explanation from hotel. The first alarms went on for 20 minutes without any explanation.
This is a party hotel. Folks are coming for the rooftop bar, which is loud and clogs up the elevators.
Good size room, very clean, great location
My partner and I recently stayed here over Valentine's Day weekend as a staycation during COVID-19 and I just wanted to highlight how clean and courteous the entire hotel staff was. We also had brunch at the rooftop restaurant and felt very safe!
We were on our honeymoon and were so pleased by Refinery. excellent host in ensuring that our honeymoon was memorable for all of the right reasons. Thank you to the team at Refinery for helping to make our honeymoon memorable!
There were a few hiccups in our reservations to do with billing and how it was handled at check-in - which were quite frustrating, but we were so thankful to host for sorting us out and ensuring a smooth and enjoyable last night at the hotel.
Rooms were dare I say it ROOMY for NYC. Adequate storage space and closet space and bathroom was a decent size.
Thin walls, assuming our next door neighbor had to much fun at the Roof Top Bar and was throwing up the whole night, we had the pleasure of hearing every single thing for about 1-2 hours straight. Had to turn on the TV to muffle some of it out!
Small boutique hotel. Good staff. Great bedding
Nothing. It is all good. Hotel to be recommended for the younger crowd.
The service of the worker was excellent
Couldn't fit my SUV in the parking structure that relates to the hotel
The size of the room, le labo products and the fact the twin beds were both kings
The hideous noise from outside. We were 10 floors up but the sound of garbage trucks and sirens was awful
Nice design / decoration, comfy bed, great location.
Low pressure on shower, issues with noisy heating (which were eventually solved), extremely small and ill equipped gym and no soundproofing on windows (so a lot of noise from outside).
Amazing style and comfort, fragrances, soaps! Great location, service, beautiful bar
Convenient restaurant with good food. Excellent mid-town location. Comfortable room.
Noisy construction next door made sleep difficult. Staff made good with breakfast vouchers - much appreciated.
Employees were very attentive and helpful. Room was generous in size and pretty quiet for NYC. Location was very convenient to shopping, Times Square and theaters, restaurants and transportation. On a more quiet street in the garment district. Loved the roof top bar as well. We requested a small fridge and it came quickly, no extra charge.
The room was very dark and the largest light required you to plug and unplug it, no switch. The ice machine on our floor (7th) was broken so we had to request that. Minor hassle but for some it might be an issue.
Fantastic location in midtown near 5th Avenue. We were there Christmas week and so near Bryant Park and Rockefeller centre and department stores so felt very festive. Parker & Quinn (hotel restaurant) food and staff and atmosphere fantastic! Loved it there! Room was huge and cool ! Great decor! Cool, trendy hotel with very large rooms.
This didn’t seem like a true top 5* hotel to me. I sent about 4 emails to arrange transport to collect us from the airport. The replied to the 2nd one saying the taxi company they use would be in touch, they didn’t get in touch and The Refinery didn’t reply to my further 2 emails chasing it up. In the end we arranged our own taxi after asking re recommendations on social media. Arriving at the hotel and seeing how laid back the staff were it didn’t surprise me about the lack of communication. No doorman. Had to struggle with cases ourselves to reception desk. Reception desk staff were ok but not very interested or friendly. Just not a 5 star super efficient smiley experience (for context we usually stay at The Mercer and it’s a totally different experience there) We left the hotel at 4am and when our final bill was invoiced to us they had charged us for items from the mini bar we had not taken including a bottle or whiskey (check your final invoice carefully !!) Was then a pain to contact them to get the items removed. However when we did get through to them the person we spoke to did immediately remove them ) This wasn’t a great experience though. I feel this needs management to get on their staff to go above and beyond, be really friendly and super efficient and it would then offer a 5 star experience
Hotel is adequate and good value. Booking.com is a disgrace.
When I needed to move the date of the reservation, Booking.com was unavailable by phone for days, and the Refinery was not permitted to do so. Very inefficient, burdensome, and disruptive. Also, not enough convenient electric outlets in the room.
