    Pros +

    • Such a pleasant stay with students from all over the world and so many convienences. Everyone is considerent and kind. Lots of activities and one block from the subway in a quiet neighborhood. Be aware it is a hostel, but there are different rooms.
    • The price a d many of the amenities the hotel offers.
    • Close to the subway, food at Cafe was decent, room was fine and I liked the location of my bunk and thatvit was a lower bunk as I need that. My roommates were quiet and this time the troop didnt smell like gym socks.

    Cons -

    • You have to take the train downtown for events, but the quiet neighborhood makes up for that. Nothing else I didn't like.
    • The only real complaint I'd say O have is that the staff shuts down bathrooms for cleaning before checkout time when people are trying to get ready to be out by 11:00. They should do this cleaning early morning or after check out time.
    • The staff needs to wait until after check out to clean the restrooms as it makes the one working restroom on the floor way too crowded when the other is being cleaned. They need a service elevator as well. The staff is always taking large carts in them.

It was an excellent value-for-money stay. Everything was clean and comfortable enough. I really appreciated the private sleeping areas and the privacy-friendly showers

In winter, the heaters run very noisily, so you have to turn them off to sleep and it gets cold. Other than that, everything is fine.

    9EduardPosted on: 11-29-2025

Very well thought, with drinking fountains and lockers

It would be great if the hostel reminded the visitors that you can't just be shaking the bed constantly or making noises. Basically, just respect. Some people act as if they are the only ones there. Both of those things happened for long periods of time, also some guy farting...

    Lots of events, friendly staff

We booked for 6 females dorm at first and everything was good. But then we went back and booked 8 females dorm, everything feels like downgraded… even the blankets feels thinner somehow.

I didn't end up ordering anything, but my friends did and they were happy. However, we all agreed that you should offer alcoholic beverages; the patio is a great space to enjoy a beer in the evening.

I stay for a two weeks and when change the room the locker lacked the amenities of newer ones, such as a light, shelf, and power outlets. It would be nice to have a quiet space to enjoy, since with so many students, the common areas are often very crowded and noisy.

    9CPosted on: 11-27-2025

Love that there's lights and plugs INSIDE the locker. Although there's only 4 sinks and showers in the shared bathroom, there's a separated dry area inside the shower to put your things.

I think the location was suitable and had great facilities, nice pool table, theater room, public spaces in general.

There was a guy at the reception not that friendly, was a little bit rude

Good convenient cafè and plenty of eateries nearby… good staff and other folks staying at histel

Bunk mate snoring- perhaps have earplugs available

It’s worthy to stay at hostel. Not bad location (depends what you need), close to everything, good cafe inside with not bad food and drinks, even a billiard table in lounge area (I was surprised). If you can’t afford hotel - this good option.

It was noisy on the 4th floor, in the rooms not really good air conditioning, just hot or just cold and super loud. But if you use earplugs - it’s ok.

Wonderful location, attentive staff, cafe on premises, free Pilates and yoga classes! Quite simply one of the best experiences I've had while traveling.

    Nothing!

I spent 4 nights here and its a really nice hostel the area is pretty good the subway is 2min walk and the hostel was clean

    8MirzaPosted on: 11-21-2025

Over all my stay was good, I stayed there 3 times in a week, which shows my liking, due to its location.

They cancelled my one of the bookings which I booked in 53$ with option to pay at the time of check-in, but they cancelled and then I had to book again on counter with 78$, it was unfair from the property....anyways property is located near Central Park and Subway in additional food options.

I had a very good experience at the HI New York hostel. The room was clean as was the bathroom. If you are lucky to stay in a room with nice and respectful ladies, like I did, then you should be fine. For short a trip to NYC I would recommend.

Shared bathrooms (but I know this in advance).
