Totally unique. I greatly enjoyed seeing the room in which President John F. Kennedy visited. I've only listed minor issues below. Bottom line is I would stay here again.

My children enjoyed the pool very much, it was nice that the water was warm. Didnt look sanitary though.
We did not stay here after we saw the condition of the filthy rooms. Thank goodness we were able to get other accommodations.
The bowling alley was cool and was in the hotel and the hotel was near the baseball field, which is why we went. Store and food places very close by, which was also nice.

Top Tips
- Book Johnstown hotels at least 21 days in advance for savings of 15-30% compared to last-minute rates; this applies especially to top chains like Hampton Inn or Comfort Inn. Advance booking helps secure accessible room types and preferred amenities, which may be limited at peak times.
- Select to pay in USD when presenting an international card at hotel check-in to avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) markups, which can add 3-7% in extra fees. Confirm the transaction currency on the payment terminal or slip before authorizing.
- Upon check-in, verify Wi-Fi speed if you intend to work remotely; Johnstown hotels average 25-50 Mbps, with peak evening demand after 8 PM. Ask for a room closer to the main router for enhanced connection stability.
- Request a ground-floor room if you require step-free access, as 40% of Johnstown hotels, mainly older motels along NY-5S, do not have elevators. For guaranteed accessible features, confirm availability with the front desk before arrival.
- Opt for tap water instead of bottled; Johnstown's municipal supply met 100% of federal safety standards in 2022-2023 and is safe for drinking. Most hotels provide reusable water stations or ice machines on multiple floors.
- Expect taxes and fees to add 18-22% onto your room rate, including 4% Fulton County sales tax, 4% state occupancy tax, and up to a 10% local surcharge. Check your booking summary for a full breakdown before completing payment.
- During the Fulton County Fair in early August, hotel rates rise 35-50%. Book 60 or more days ahead for better availability or consider staying in Amsterdam, NY, just 20 minutes west, where average rates are 15% lower.
- Plan for a 3:00 PM check-in time; 90% of Johnstown hotels enforce this and less than 15% allow early access. Schedule buffer activities or lunch nearby, such as at Main Street Cafés, if you arrive before check-in.
- Use ATMs from local banks like KeyBank or Pathfinder FCU for cash withdrawals to avoid $15 hotel front desk cash advance fees. Two surcharge-free ATMs are located within 0.5 miles of most downtown hotels.
- Declining daily housekeeping helps reduce water use by about 30 gallons per day per room. Use the hotel's app or a door hanger to opt out and contribute to local conservation efforts.
