    Pros +

    • The Location is the only thing going for it - everything else was a disappointing experience (despite the high cost). I would say it is not even a 3-star hotel, maybe a 1.5 star. We had a terrible stay, but they are the only place in town (monopoly?).
    • Front desk innkeeper was nice.
    • Friendly, helpful staff. Very clean. Good location for a getaway.

    Cons -

    • Expensive (not worth the cost). Unexpected room water charges (without fore-warning). Old, dingy, musty carpet that produces allergies all night. Lame breakfast. Miniature sink and shower. ancient TV. Forgetful staff. Meal without silverware. Allergies!!
    • Rooms were small. TV was old. Dust on the desks. No fridge or microwave. A/C was broken most of the time and couldn¿t be set below 68 degrees or it will freeze. Was charged $6 for Fiji water whichI didn¿t know they charged for - I thought they were free.
    • The room did not meet any expectations/pictures on website and I was placed in a room next to the stairs which was noisy. The window did not open and the room had a smell of gas or oil when the AC was running. It was more shabby than chic.

    The staff were extremely friendly!

The general decor and condition of the rooms was very poor. Not the historic decor I had expected.

Location is great (near a lake and small boat harbor), bar/restaurant is great, staff is friendly, breakfast was good

Everything was clean at first look but some hidden areas could use a deep cleaning (I opened the curtains in the room and the windows were pretty gross)

Couldn't get the room I had actually booked. Put us in a room that they said was an upgrade (wasn't). Paid for king bed but got queen bed. The room they moved us to was over some mechanical equipment so it woke us in the night. Avoid Room 6 (too loud).

This was a quaint, yet modern hotel. We stay at hotels approximately once/month and this was a great place. The room was beautiful. Having 3 restaurants under the same roof was awesome. We loved the breakfast and parking was close to our room.

Our only complaint would be that there was not path shoveled from our parking spot to the most convenient door for us to use. Other than that, everything was great.

The attached wine room, antique store and on site restaurants- local ambiance and friendly helpful staff.

It's history is apparent the second you walk in the front door. This B and B is located steps from the St. Croix river and is nestled in the cutest small town ever! On the opposite side of river in WI is yet another adorable town. very relaxing stay

No closets, bathroom shower was so small it was almost frustrating trying to shower, room was quaint but not snoot of space to move around. Breakfast: dripped w grease and seemed microwaved:( in fairness; we asked for early food n no chef was there yet

The Afton location is a very beautiful setting. The quaint small town feel, river views, and proximity to the cities makes Afton a nice alternative to the bigger weekend getaways from the cities. The restaurants, bars, and outdoor spaces are great.

The bed was really comfortable. The breakfast was really good and exceeded our expectations. The location is easy to find.

It was a little further drive from Stillwater than we first thought. But in some ways, this was nice. The exterior of the older section is old, the interior was nice. Charming!

The Afton House Inn staff was so welcoming and I felt very taken care of by Peggy. The Swirl restaurant at the Inn had great food and entertainment as well as an amazing staff. I enjoyed my stay in this quaint town close to the river. The complimentary breakfast each day was perfect.

Breakfast was okay. Glad there were hot food options and not just continental breakfast. Location was great - cute little town. The people working there were very accommodating, friendly and helpful.

Could have been cleaner. There are many outdated decorations on the walls that were very dusty/dirty. There was a pill from a previous guest in the corner on the floor. The deck and chairs off of our room needed to be cleaned. TV placement in bedroom was weird. I suspect it is there due to a limitation of some sort, but even moving the bed to a different wall to accommodate would make more sense. Also, the TV in the main room was so small, we could barely see it from across the room. I realize that watching TV when there are other things to do may not be a priority and older structures have limitations on what can be installed where.

The front desk staff were so friendly. She walked us to our room & gave us all the info we needed for our stay.

Delicious food and beautiful dining room!

The bed was small and squeaky

The french toast was awesome. The location was the center of attention for the city. It is a historical venue so everything is a little outdated. The shower is small. It was fine for a one night stay.

The location was amazing! The view I had from my balcony was breathtaking and if I could sit there every morning drinking my coffee, until I’m old and gray…. I would die happy. The staff was very helpful and kind. Shout out to Peggy and Shane. Peggy, thank you for being a one-of-a-kind woman, and a real-life genuine human being. Never stop being you!

Price for some of the rooms are kind of high.
