Good location and friendly staff. Will stay here again if I'm in the area.
The best part? I guess that it was within a mile of a Casey's General Store and just off the highway, which made travel easy.

Top Tips
- Expand your hotel search radius to include Newton (8 mi) and Des Moines (22-35 mi) for over 20 additional property options. For summer weekends, reserve 7-14 days ahead to secure rates and room type. Compare amenities like complimentary breakfast or pools, which are more common in chain hotels in Newton or Des Moines.
- Des Moines International Airport (DSM) sits 30-35 mi (30-40 min drive) from Colfax. Rideshare wait times may exceed 20 minutes, especially during peak hours, and deadhead fees can increase prices. Book a rental car at the airport for smoother onward travel.
- Renting a car ensures reliable mobility, as Jasper County lacks fixed-route public transit. Drive times between Colfax, Newton, and Newton hotels average 10-30 min. National chains at Newton often offer free onsite parking.
- Contact the hotel before arrival to confirm accessible or ground-floor room availability, since most motels in the Colfax area are two-story or low-rise without elevators. Request step-free access or visual alarms if needed to support your stay.
- From November to March, allow 30-60 extra minutes for winter road delays on I-80/US-6. Confirm current conditions through the Iowa DOT 511 traveler information service before departure, especially after snow or ice events.
- If you need reliable Wi-Fi speeds (10 Mbps or higher) for remote work or streaming, book with chain hotels in Newton or Des Moines. On arrival at independent properties, test connection speed as some operate on home-grade networks—ask the front desk if you experience issues.
- Tap water in Colfax is municipally treated and usually potable. Most hotels provide complimentary bottled water for guests, but check room amenities at booking. Watch for local advisories via the utility website for any temporary boil-water notices.
- Carry at least $15 US cash for incidental expenses. Some independent motels in Colfax may ask for a small cash deposit or hold alongside card payment to cover local fees. Verify payment policy with your hotel before arrival, as major chains typically accept only cards.
