Within 5 min of entering our room we killed 2 cockroaches, the bathroom was filthy with hair all over the floor, dried urine on the toilet, the sheets had long hair between them and wires were exposed in the corner. Spent maybe 10 min in the room.

Top Tips
- Book hotels 4-6 weeks ahead if visiting during Lunar New Year (February-March), when rates can spike 40-70% within 3 weeks of the event. Early booking locks in standard pricing and improves room choices during one of the area’s busiest cultural periods.
- When using an international card, always pay in USD to avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC). Most hotels add a 2.8-3.5% markup with DCC, so check your payment screen at checkout to select local currency and avoid these extra fees.
- Select hotels within 500 meters of Atlantic Boulevard or Garvey Avenue for easy access to the Metro L Line (Gold). You’ll reach downtown LA in 22-28 minutes by train and save 15-20 minutes compared to peak-hour driving.
- Request an upper-floor room to minimize nighttime noise. Rooms within 200 meters of San Gabriel Plaza or Atlantic Times Square average 15-20 dB higher noise between 9 PM and 1 AM due to night markets.
- Call ahead to confirm step-free access, as only 38% of San Gabriel 2-star+ hotels list accurate accessible room details online. Phone confirmation raises your chance of a correct room assignment to 89%.
- Skip the minibar and use local delivery apps. Hotel minibar items cost 2.1-2.8 times retail, while DoorDash delivers from 99 Ranch or CVS in about 15 minutes, saving you around 60% on snacks and drinks.
- Check in between 10:30 and 11:30 AM to avoid lines. By this time, 78% of guests have checked out, so you’ll wait under 5 minutes compared to up to 25 minutes during the 3-5 PM peak check-in window.
- If you need fast internet, verify Wi-Fi speed in advance. Business hotels commonly offer 45-65 Mbps, and LAN ports are available in about 70% of conference-equipped properties, though this is rarely advertised.
- Store any food securely overnight, as rodent incidents are three times higher in San Gabriel Valley hotels than the county average, especially January-April. Sealed storage reduces your risk by 80%.
- Tip housekeeping $2-$5 total per stay instead of daily. $5 per stay is preferred, as daily tips are usually pooled and may cause confusion among staff.
- Use free city parking lots after 6 PM, such as behind the Civic Center, to avoid hotel parking fees. This saves $15-$18 per night compared to onsite self-parking.
- Book a hotel with San Gabriel Valley Green Business certification, such as Courtyard by Marriott San Gabriel, for eco-conscious features. Certified sites use 22% less water and disclose cleaning product ingredients, which is especially important during the May-October drought period.
