Pros +
- friendly staff, nice pool, very clean
- Amazingly decorated hotel and room. Lots of bars and restaurants.
- Nice staff and clean rooms
Cons -
- wifi is a bit spotty and the room was a bit dark
- Hotel was extremely understaffed. Bars had LONG queues and staff was visibly stressed. Hotel is NOT 4-star. No housekeeping, even on request. No room service. Standard room was full size bunk beds, NOT a double bed ? thankfully the hotel moved us bigger.
- Floors filthy. Can hear everyone¿s noise. Hallways smelling pot. Not ideal for those with kids.

Nice staff and clean rooms
Construction going on right outside our room at 7:30am.
Location and pool server were great
Cockroach in room. Interaction with front desk staff not great. Younger girls seemed annoyed when I asked for a pool wristband (which is their policy). Luckily the server at the pool caught us on our way out and mentioned to go back a grab a towel.
Staff are very welcome and friendly.
Hotel parking and the room air condition
Night clerk double charges on 2 deposits. Deposit all hotel in San Diego is $50-$100 But Travel charged me $148 twice! Owner growled at me for asking for a reversal at mid-night! Rain and Hurricane issue kept everyone up late but she was rude When I
Rude owner!
it was inexpensive
the construction (never mentioned when we made the reservation) and that they REALLY need to drop some money on the renovations and not just slap some paint on it and call it good.
MOST of the staff were friendly and accommodating. Pool area was pretty, just crowded (as expected) on the weekend. It's very nice that they grant free parking to teachers/medical/military personnel.
Our original room (just off the lobby) had a terrible smell of cleaning solution and we asked to be moved after the first night. Our request was granted and the second room was better. The rooms were not very clean and my white socks turned black.
I really liked staying here. Was not cookie cutter accommodations, but charming, comfortable, and welcoming. The pool is awesome and somehow manages to provide a party environment that feels very adult and a bit wild while at the same time kid friendly.
I liked the idea of staying in a historic hotel. I have stayed in many and this was far from what we expected.
Inspite of being a historic hotel it has not been maintained. I expected historic not run down and definitely not very clean. There was mold (a lot and very obvious) and the air conditioner sounded like an airplane taking off which made sleeping difficult
The ambiance and the size of the rooms were impressive. Didn¿t get to take advantage of the pool, but it looked beautiful!
The bathroom was definitely aged and could use some updating, but it was fine for our stay!
The Lafayette Hotel opened in 1946 as a large luxury hotel. It has character with large beautiful pool and atrium. The staff was very accommodating, the rooms varied and clean with all the needed amenities. I would come back.
Does not offer free breakfast. They charge for parking, but do have free internet.
Location
First room smelled like cigarettes even though it was a non smoking room. Towels were stained and terrible quality. Bathroom / room / bed all extremely dated.
Nice Pool and quite atmosphere.
Need more towels for pool.
Front desk staff was very personable and friendly. Parking was extremely convenient to our room. Room as quiet, clean and just what we need after a long day of moving. Would love to stay here again when we have more time.
Not that we can think of.
Lots of personality and potential. Staff is very friendly.
Rooms, hallways and general upkeep is in desperate need of an overhaul. Serious fly problem. The same towels, food, and drinks were left at the pool my entire 3 day stay.
The Lafayette is centrally located with a 1940s decor and layout. From the lobby I was drawn to a covered terrace - open, airy and filled with natural light. It overlooks a pool surrounded by cabanas and palm trees. I enjoyed my afternoon in this terrace.
The room needed more modernizing, specifically with the window shades. The plastic blinds were bent and did not close well, consequently light penetrated the room in the early room.
Friendly staff
Poor location. Not much to do. Swimming pool is nice but over crowded because hotel sells day passes to non guests.
The hotel looks nice in the lobby area.
The room is old and outdated. It was not very clean so I had to clean it by myself again, they forgot to leave a soap for our room, so I went to front desk to ask for a soap. Then I found they forgot to leave body wash too¿
