ITH Colive Balboa Park

The hostel is at the confluence of some very fun experiences. Hillcrest neighborhood has many restaurants and bars to enjoy, while the San Diego zoo is very close, and Whole Foods is just around the corner on 7th and Robinson Avenue.

There are normal people issues with any hostel but the other guests were mostly very pleasent.

Location,location ,location..price

Sketch neighborhood,with homeless and thugs all around....Always get back to hotel before dark or take taxi....scaring...

Very convenient location in Hillcrest iconic neighbourhood.Good price and very friendly, welcoming & helpful staff .Very sadly, the hostel in this location does not exist any more..

Some rooms are too small for 4 people, sometimes very loud noise from the ventilator which functions instead of AC

Clean facilities, clean & spacy bathrooms, beautiful lobby with billiard & books, breakfast served every morning.The hostel does not exist in this place any more.

Disappointing

When I first arrived the desk clerk was rude and my price jumped $30 from booking. If you are an old handsome white male everything goes up in price.

I liked the vibe and appreciated the effort to generate group activities. The location was great and the staff seemed to do a good job operating and maintaining the place. I liked the notion of the long-term occupation option too.

No real effort made to maintain quiet in the hallways. Could have been cleaner, though it really wasn’t bad, considering the nature of the place.

No value to induce by booking com. It should remove. I had reserve because I live currently in Baja California. That night I had a dinner from friends from San Francisco.To return late night to Baja is not safe.So I made reserve. It is cross near border. Also they gave discount. When I checked in. A stuff asked me to pay almost $48.But I got less than $40. I told her about price. She said to me " You can not stay here. Your driver's licence address is California. We accept far way people. I did not here that rule. I use booking com in Japan too. I do not have any problem from booking com.Facility is not clean and nice. It looks homeless hotel. I recommend the booking com should visit there. It should inspect. Even little cheap I would like to pay little more to find better place.

Dirty and stuffs attitude. It may discrimination happened to me. I came from Japan. My USA driver's licence is in California so I can not stay there. It is just she made reason accurately she made discrimination. I feel so.

Fellow Travellers and the free breakfast.Location was full of bars and restaurants

Hostel was getting bulldozed (whole block for condo) at end if month and things needing fixing were being let slide. Some residents complained of bedbugs in common room but i never had a problem

The location was amazing, staff were friendly and there was a good vibe between all the guests

The facilities were not very clean

Location, key cards instead of regular keys, bed was comfortable

not too clean, the Curtin in one shower was full of mold/mildew

Incompetent staff.

You could smell weed althroughout the hallways. Mentally unstable woman in the womens dorm turned off air conditioner and refused us air condition. They refused to help me get into another air conditioned room. I checked out with no refund. No apologies. They just took the money and said see you later. Terrible.

Staff was great, friendly and very welcoming.

The common areas are very dirty. People partying long into the night hence you hear people shouting and going up and down all night long hence its hard to sleep. We were provided dirty towels and the "AC" is just a fan linked into the common hall that sucks all the smell from smoking and toilet directly into your room.

I left after check in.

A mentally ill person was living in the womens dorm. She blocked us from using the air conditioning. Asked staff two times for help. They offered no other room, so I checked out and they offered no other accomidation or help. Basically said "good luck" and kept my money. My friend also attempted to come that night and they never picked up their phone. They were never at the front desk.

Very nice welcoming from the staff. All guests were nice and there is a cool shared area.

We were in a room with no window and AC so it was pretty hot. It’s not what I expected after reading the description on Booking.

i liked the price and the location. the staff was also super nice

the bathrooms were really dirty, the curtains had over a foot of mold growing on them. we also didn’t have AC in our room. i would have liked if the description said that instead of us having to find out the day of. the offered to refund but we didn’t have time to find somewhere else . there was no private parking for my car so we had to park a black away . when we went inside the room it had a little window but it faced towards inside the building, you could see inside of our room through the little vents the fan had , it was super creepy and made us so uncomfortable we had to cover that with some pillows . Felt like I was in a scary movie or something

It’s close to restaurants and entertainment

The living room needs some cleaning. It needs some brighten up including the bathroom. There was one guy who hogs the TV most of the time and I’m not sure if he actually lives there. Security is questionable.

Staff was very nice and helpful, they changed my room when i requested it.

The bathrooms were dirty, from the toilettes to the shower curtains.

Staff are all so friendly and accommodating. It is such a great hostel to stay in as there is always free events on run by the hostel. Perfect for solo travellers
