    Cons -

    • The room I booked was not what I was given. I’m very upset!
    • The bartenders were terrible.
    • Unfortunately, the biggest downside of this hotel is the parking situation. There is little to no parking available, which made my stay unnecessarily stressful.

I chose to stay at The Beau due to its proximity to the Balboa Theater, where I saw a show, and it couldn't be better for that. It was very very clean and the staff was genuinely nice and welcoming. The room was a good size, very roomy. There is no chair in the room, but there is a cute sunroom on the second floor, which is quite comfortable for knitting -- comfy chairs, coffee and a selection of teas. This is also where you'll find the ice machine.

I didn't care for the mattress, too firm for my taste. The hotel knows that it's not soundproof and they provide earplugs, but hoo boy, you'd need actual noise-cancelling headphones to make a dent in the noise at about 2 a.m. This makes sense, of course, 2 a.m. is closing time for bars in California. But I just had the bad luck to be sleeping there on a night when there was a fight including grievous bodily harm, a standoff with police, and the perpetrator starting a fire in his room, so the drunken revelry also included lights and sirens and loud police announcements over a PA system, etc.The Gaslamp district is cute and funky if you turn left as you leave the hotel and walk a few blocks. If you turn right, as I did, you'll spend some time in Thunderdome, starting with the Hustler club next door to the hotel, but you'll be rewarded with Hey Books!, a terrific new/used bookstore with a fantastic selection.

The people were very pleasant and helpful when asked. The coffee bar was nice to have.Nice decor. Breakfast at the restaurant was delicious. Nice to have the $24 voucher.

The available stations on the basic cable channels was very limiting without a subscription. It was very frustrating trying to find the Superbowl game or any cable news shows. No refrigerator for any leftovers from eating out or softdrinks was frustrating.

Location, restaurant, building had character , free coffee

No elevator but staff helped with luggage, old building so not enough outlets

It was a beautiful boutique hotel setup. Very quaint, smells great, aesthetically pleasing, good service, very effecient, 24 hour coffee station, very convenient for restaurants and food, great taco restaurants

Great hotel, friendly staff and very nice Bar/Restaurant. Right in Gas Lamp.

Nothing not to like. Few unhoused people around, but that goes for all of San Diego. They do not bother anyone.

    Well located, very helpful staff.

Did not realise from description that there was no lift but they helped with the luggage.

    Unacceptable guest experience

I stayed at this property in the middle of winter and upon arriving in the room there was no heating at all. The room was freezing cold and completely unsuitable for a winter stay.I immediately informed the staff, but nothing was done to solve the problem. No alternative room, no temporary solution, no assistance whatsoever. We were forced to sleep in the cold, which caused extreme discomfort.I later requested at least a partial refund due to this unacceptable situation, but the manager refused outright, showing total negligence and lack of professionalism toward guests. To make matters worse, we were not even given the $25 coupon that was clearly included in our reservation. This experience was extremely disappointing and unacceptable for any hotel. Poor service, no accountability, and complete disregard for guest comfort.

Nice newly renovated hotel, nice decor and clean. They offered to take my luggage up since there is no elevator, but this was unnecessary---stairs are wide and inviting. Small communal coffee corner with an outdoor balcony and some indoor space, as well as complimentary tea and coffee. Nice room with comfortable bed. There is no desk in the room, which was a bit of a surprise, and the coffee corner also didn't work well for that, but the staff was welcoming of me working in the restaurant downstairs while it was open, both during breakfast time, and in the evening until it closed.

    No desk in room

The room was great but terrible at night to sleep noisy street parties and not able to shut windows due to air conditioning hose leading outside

The noisy atmosphere outside the window

The hotel is very well kept and clean. The staff is kind and the overall vibe is good.

Noise insulation in the windows is almost non-existing as the AC unit as one of these external units that has an exhaust through the window. Being in downtown SD, it can get pretty loud. One other thing is the AC unit itself, as it’s pretty loud too.

Clean and so quiet and peaceful

Pros-coffee/tea. Hotel is pretty, wide hallways, clean, and close to Petco and other attractions. Nice garden area for communal use. Restaurant was ok.

Did not get the King room we paid for. It’s not a big price difference, but it was what we came to expect AND I called to confirm after booking through here. Air conditioning is a window unit-not what I expected and missing from website photos. Small improvements could help make stay more comfortable-lights on each nightstands for independent light use. Real half and half for morning coffee vs the small packets.

Free coffee in the morning was great. Hotel was clean and beautiful and well-staffed by great people. Restaurant was good, the coupon was really nice.

Room was nice, but not designed well. There were only a few outlets, not in usable places. The bedside table was wedged sideways between the bed and wall. The desk was itty-bitty.
