Pros +
- The room was very quiet and comfortable. The sea breeze coming through the window was wonderful. Continental breakfast was varied and very good, something for everyone! We loved our room!
- Location was great. It was a busy night, so parking was troublesome. The furniture appears outdated, but I think it adds to the historic charm. The room was very clean and the bed was awesome.
- Big room
Cons -
- Bed was high for an older person. (Beach Primrose room). Stairs provided but my husband slept on the couch. We both slept very well. Noisy elevator (expected since it is so old). People in rooms near by would not have gotten such a restful stay.
- VERY limited front desk staff. Hardly anyone around to answer the phone, even during list front desk hours. Had very noisy people that would just hang out and talk in the hallway of the room, so I had to deal with that myself.
- Lights did not work in room! Only 1 lamp for lighting! Sheets were very rough bed hard pillows hard! Nice hot tub but took along time to fill! Was to expensive and not a lot for breakfast like holiday express had! Wont stay there again!

Location
TV did nor work. Shower handles not easy to work.
Location is great, right downtown and it’s easy to walk anywhere.
I had arranged for late arrival, but there was no one at the desk and it took me quite a while to find someone . Then I was checked into a room that hadn’t been cleaned. Once I let the person at the front desk know she checked me into another room.
The hotel is in downtown Benicia and extremely walkable.
From the moment you entered the front door there was chipped linoleum on the floor, an ancient elevator that creaked and groaned and stopped two inches below the floor so you could trip getting out.The room itself was OLD with chipped paint, broken down, armless chairs. The view of the water is over trash cans and an alley. The bathroom is another trip hazard with the threshold one inch above the floor. The toilet was extremely low, the seat was broken, the shower was an old jacuzzi that no longer worked but had 2-3 ft sides that you had to step over to use the tub.Needless to say we didn’t stay there as it was a safety hazard and a dump.
I love staying in old hotels, and the UNION fits the bill perfectly. I also appreciated the restaurant and bar attached-so delicious and convenient. The setting on the central street of Benecia just provided easy access to shops, restaurants, and exploration. I would stay there again.
Great location, historic hotel.
Inexistant breakfast. One towel stank so much we couldn’t use it. And there is no staff onsite after 5 to ask for little things like that.
Kind staff. Perfect in town/convenient location.
In house phone did not work. Staff unavailable on weekends for issues/calls. Tv did not work. No clock in room. Would not accommodate a later check out time.
Location
Bathroom door loudly squeaks. Room too cold. Shower operation poor. TV; it wasn’t clear how to turn it on. No breakfast included, despite their website implying that breakfast was to be included.
Delightful historic hotel near the water, walkable, pretty views, fantastic bar and restaurant.
Loved all, everything works well, but expect an old (1882!) quaint hotel feel.
This is a beautiful hotel built in the 1850s. The grand character shined throughout the building and in our room. The views from our room of the water and sunsets were absolutely amazing. Great location in old town Benecia in the middle of the antique shops and restaurants. Just a short stroll to the marina and waterfront park where the birds and wildlife abound. Fabulous restaurant on the ground floor owned by a great guy Gabe who is also a world class chef.
The front desk staff were only there for 3 hours in the evening. Otherwise it was a strictly do it yourself establishment. Nobody answered the hotel's contact phone when we arrived at 3 to check in and the front desk was deserted. The restaurant proprietor Gabe ended up getting a hold of the hotel manager and gave us our room keys. Despite being advertised as available there was no breakfast of any kind or anyone at the front desk in the morning for that matter. The room was a little run down and the water in the shower was lukewarm.
Historical,nice view
No breakfast,some things not working
self-serve breakfast with bars and oatmeal, it's adequate. Coffee in room was ok. Self-check-in instructions were easy to follow. Bed was comfortable and location was great. Bathroom and amenities were clean. There is a restaurant downstairs but we didn't eat there.
Given it's an old establishment, don't expect it to meet today's standard, but overall it met our expectations.

Inexistant breakfast. One towel stank so much we couldn’t use it. And there is no staff onsite after 5 to ask for little things like that.
What's the location couldn't be better, and I love the charming old feeling and decor the whole hotel in my room, with a lovely view of the water. I'm very quiet, and the heater/Cooler worked excellently in the bed was clean I'm comfy. I myself prefer softer memory foam style bed, and this was firmer that I like but I think most people would actually prefer it. And the check-in was very friendly and efficient. Really enjoyed my stay. And the people at the restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel we're super friendly and helpful as well. I would happily stay here again
Well I thought there was supposed to be a breakfast, but there was no breakfast at all and nobody at reception that I saw during the morning hours. But that was just a minor misunderstanding I guess.
We liked the room and the comfortable bed.
We found the area of the granola bars, coffee and the other small items not a continental breakfast and of our three mornings there the doors were locked before 10:00 AM.Also, kill the huge weeds outside on the side of the hotel. They make the place look cheap and less inviting
Not acceptable
Dirty linen and towels. Stained carpet all over, animal pee smell, hair in the bathroom, broken furniture etc. Late check in, we did move to another hotel, no way I want to sleep in a dirty bed.
Nice location
Shower was very bad, too low for anyone but a child. Ultra low water pressure and a tiny stream. Washing your hair was impossible.
The location, large room and bed, extremely great decor. Staff was always helpful and nice.
We spilled a little liquid on the floor, using a napkin to wipe the clear spill up and napkin turned brown from a dirty floor.
