The interior common areas and our room was outdated but very clean. Towels were large and fluffy, everything was in working order and staff was pleasant and eager to assist.
Convenient to where we need to go. Breakfast was a surprise, lots of choices from egg and sausage hashbrowns to waffles, pastry and cereal plus fresh fruit juices and great coffee!

It was quiet.
Location but the traffic was a bit loud. Try to get a room on the backside of the hotel. For the price in the area its just ok, nothing modern at all. Take a fan to block the noise, the unit in the window does not have a continuous blower option.
The beds were comfortable.

the front desk. From my first phone call to the day before check out. This woman was a joy to work with.
Hard to believe this hotel is as clean, quiet, and modern as it is. We stayed on the night that fireworks were going off for the 4th, and we couldn¿t hear them at all in our room. Slept very well, the bed was comfortable.
This was an awesome stay. The room was spacious and clean. The beds were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was fabulous. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. We'd definitely stay there again.

It had a nice Mexican restaurant within a two-minute walk. After a day of driving, it was nice not to get in the car and drive around to look for a place to eat.

The staff they were nice and friendly very welcoming.
When we walked into our room, my wife saw a cockroach. A few minutes later, I went to the bathroom and found 2 smaller cockroaches scurrying around. When I crawled into bed, I moved the pillow, and a larger cockroach was sitting there.

Nice clean big room. Very quiet respectable guests.
Upon check in we were charged an extra fee for the dog. Motel 6 campaign nationwide is all about pets which is the ONLY reason we stay at Motel 6 consistently. Walking into the lobby the entire building reeked of curry. An OVERWHELMING smell. Nauseating
Was clean enough and had a bed. I was a late arrival and had to wake the clerk so I can¿t criticize him at all.

Top Tips
- Hotels within 2 miles of Southern Illinois University Carbondale often reach over 90% occupancy for football games, graduation, and orientation weekends. Reserve at least 6-8 weeks early for SIU events or summer peak dates to access standard rates and avoid limited-room markups. Confirm your reservation window aligns with major campus event calendars.
- Southern Illinois Airport (MDH) sits 6 miles north of central Carbondale and infrequent flights mean shuttle service is rare. Confirm shuttle availability with your hotel at least 24 hours before arrival. If unavailable, budget $15 to $40 for a local taxi or rideshare to most area hotels.
- Reaching Shawnee National Forest, Garden of the Gods, or wine trail locations usually requires a rental car. Major sites are 10-30 miles from central Carbondale, and public transit does not operate outside city limits. Arrange vehicle rental in advance if you plan outdoor excursions.
- Recent reviews posted within the last 3 months on TripAdvisor and Google reveal patterns in noise levels, Wi-Fi reliability, and service quality, particularly during student move-in or event weekends. Compare at least two sources for balanced perspectives before booking.
- Expect 11-15% in state, local, and tourism taxes on Carbondale hotel stays; on a $110 room, this adds $15 to $17 nightly. Before booking, ask hotels to confirm your full nightly total including all mandatory fees.
- For business stays, nearly all national-brand hotels offer free Wi-Fi and business centers, with printers and meeting rooms available by reservation. Ask the front desk about early check-in and workspace availability, especially if you need to work immediately upon arrival.
- Noise-sensitive guests can minimize disturbances on weekends by requesting a room on floors 3 and above or facing away from I-57 and student housing clusters. Most hotels honor quiet room requests if noted at booking or check-in.
- Standard local hotel tipping: $15 per bag for bell staff, $15 per night for housekeeping (left daily, ideally with a note), and 15-20% for valets or concierge-arranged services. Adjust for exceptional service or additional requests.
- Family travelers can request complimentary cribs, microwaves, and connecting rooms at major chains in Carbondale. At least 60% of midrange hotels include hot breakfast. Check inclusions and reserve child amenities early to guarantee availability.
- Carbondale hotels apply a wide range of pet policies, and some restrict dogs to 25 kg (55 lb) or less, with fees from $15 to $75 per stay. Always call ahead to confirm limits, fees, and pet-free floor options when booking.
- Front desks in most Carbondale hotels know the latest on event parking, campus activities, local trails, and restaurant options. Ask for updates or recommendations when you check in. Staff can direct you to quieter venues and flag road closures affecting your plans.
- Pack for temperature swings: average highs hit 90°F (32°C) in summer and 50°F (10°C) by late fall. Shawnee National Forest hikes require sturdy shoes, refillable water bottles, and insect repellent April-October due to high tick and mosquito activity.
- At least 35% of Carbondale hotels partner with local wineries, campus tour organizations, or hiking guides to offer package rates or experience add-ons. Ask about current promotions or bundled activities during booking.
- Most area hotels allow free cancellation up to 24-48 hours before arrival for standard rates. Non-refundable bookings or major event dates often require full prepayment. Double-check cancellation terms in the rate details to avoid late fees or penalties.
- Bring a government-issued photo ID and the card used for booking. Hotels in Carbondale typically require guests to be 18 or 21+ at check-in, and most hold a $15 to $100 deposit for incidentals. Verify age and deposit rules before you arrive if booking for young adults.
- Week-long or last-minute stays can qualify for corporate, university, or extended-stay rate reductions; discounts are usually 10-20% off standard rates. Call the hotel directly to negotiate or confirm eligibility based on your duration and group type.
