as the star rating says.
Location was great. There was a lot of historical value as Churchill stayed there before the first world war.. Dundee is a friendly place with plenty to do and see. Local shopping Center a 5 minute walk from the mall.

The hotel is well-situated near the city center and train station, which is quite convenient. The rooms were clean, though just average in terms of facilities.

Top Tips
- Book early if visiting during peak university events (freshers' week in early September, graduations in June or November), major V&A Dundee exhibitions, or festivals. Rooms can sell out weeks in advance, and rates often increase by 15-30%. For best value, compare rates at least 3-4 weeks before your visit.
- Review current guest photos and recent feedback on TripAdvisor or Google before reserving. Many Dundee hotels are set in historic buildings, so room sizes and amenities can vary by up to 25%. Verify your preferred room type with the property if details are unclear online.
- Dundee Airport (DND) serves limited domestic flights. Most travelers arrive at Dundee Station, a 10-minute walk to city-centre hotels, or connect from Edinburgh Airport (EDI) by train (75-90 minutes). Confirm onward transport before arrival, as taxi queues may be longest after 20:00 or during large events.
- Expect a card pre-authorization at check-in for most UK hotels; a typical hold equals one night's rate. International cards are usually accepted, but check your bank’s fees for currency conversion before arrival.
- Select flexible cancellation rates if your plans may change. Larger chain hotels in Dundee often allow changes up to 24 hours before arrival. Smaller B&Bs may require 48-72 hours’ notice or charge full stay if cancelled late, so verify the policy on your booking confirmation.
- Bring a government-issued photo ID (passport or UK/EU driving license) and the card used to book. UK hotels will request these at check-in for security compliance; digital wallet payment may not suffice for verification.
- If arriving after 20:00, confirm the hotel’s late check-in process in advance. Some smaller Dundee hotels close reception by 22:00 and use locked key boxes or self-check-in codes.
- Wi-Fi speed and desk setup differ by property. If remote work is critical, ask for upload/download speeds; some heritage hotels may only offer 10-15 Mbps. Verify whether there’s a daily charge, as fees range from £0 to £10.
- Parking may be on-site or in public lots within 200-500 m, with fees from £5-£15 per day. Confirm availability and whether EV charging is supported, as only a handful of Dundee hotels offer on-site charging as of 2024.
- Request a quieter room on higher floors or away from main streets. Many hotels provide free luggage storage, so you can leave your bags if checking in early or departing late. Verify this when reserving your room.
- Breakfast options vary. Full Scottish breakfasts are common at larger hotels from 07:00-10:00, while smaller B&Bs may serve between 08:30-09:30. If you have dietary restrictions or need early service, confirm details when booking.
- Tipping is voluntary but appreciated. In restaurants and bars attached to hotels, 10% is standard for good service. Housekeeping and porters typically receive £1-£2 per service (about $1.25-$2.50 USD; approx., verify rate), but there’s no obligation.
- Respect quiet hours from 22:00 to 07:00, particularly in residential or university-adjacent hotels. For lighter sleepers, request a room away from areas close to pubs or nightlife; venues on Perth Road can be lively on weekends.
- Primary payment in Dundee is by card (GBP only). Contactless is accepted nearly everywhere, including major hotels and taxis. Keep a small amount of cash (£10-£20) for independent shops, as some may not accept cards.
- Pack a waterproof jacket, layers, and sturdy shoes. Dundee averages 170 rainy days per year, and city streets can be uneven or cobbled. Bring a small umbrella for extra flexibility.
- Taxis and local buses (Xplore Dundee) cover most areas. Uber operates in a limited zone with sporadic availability. Pre-book airport transfers, especially late at night or if your flight lands after 22:00, as wait times can reach 25-40 minutes.
- Major city events, university terms, summer festivals, and Dundee FC or Dundee United football home matches can raise hotel prices by 10-25%. Check the city and university websites for event calendars before booking to avoid premium dates.
- Hotel staff can recommend local pubs such as The Pillars and seafood spots along the waterfront. For unique views, walk 1.4 km (about 20 minutes) up Dundee Law. Entry to V&A Dundee requires timed tickets during major exhibitions.
- Historic properties like Malmaison Dundee or converted mill hotels offer unique character, but may feature steep stairs or compact bathrooms. Request room dimensions or layout photos before booking if accessibility or space is a concern.
- Families should confirm availability of family rooms, cots, and connecting rooms in advance. Some smaller B&Bs only accommodate guests over 12 years; ask about child policy and menu options if traveling with young children.
- Business travelers can expect desk space and early breakfast (from 06:30) at chain hotels. Printing and meeting rooms are standard at venues like Apex City Quay. Confirm availability and any charges when booking.
- Most Dundee hotels accept dogs in designated rooms, with cleaning fees from £10-£25 per stay. Verify restrictions and advance booking requirements for pet-friendly rooms, as availability is limited.
