The curry was excellent.
Front desk staff member on the night I was there was very helpful. He arranged my taxi, even though it was almost midnight when I arrived and I needed a taxi for 4.15 am the next morning. He worked with the taxi company to find the right solution.
Staff was overly helpful and chatty.

Top Tips
- Book your hotel well in advance, ideally several weeks to months before major Cardiff events like rugby internationals or stadium concerts. Rates often rise and availability drops quickly during these peak periods. Verify the event calendar on the official Visit Cardiff site for specific dates.
- Arrange airport transfer ahead of time, as Cardiff Airport (CWL) is 20 km (12 mi) from the center and travel averages 30-40 minutes. The T9 Express bus or the Rhoose train shuttle provide direct options; licensed airport taxis generally cost £20-30 (approx. $25-38). Confirm transfer schedule, especially after 20:00.
- Bring a valid photo ID (passport or UK driving license) and the card used for your reservation, as UK hotels require these for check-in and may place a temporary hold. VAT is included in the price, and Cardiff hotels do not charge additional local tourist taxes.
- Choose your hotel based on your plans: city center hotels offer easy access to attractions and Cardiff Central Station, while airport hotels near CWL are ideal for early flights or late arrivals. Distances range from 100 m for terminal walking hotels, up to 1 km for offsite accommodations.
- Request a room away from nightlife hubs such as St Mary Street or Principality Stadium for quiet between 22:00-08:00. Many hotels publish quiet hour policies; verify at booking if you are sensitive to city activity or flight paths.
- Confirm hotel parking before arrival. Central Cardiff parking is limited and often costs £15-25 (about $15 to $32) per night; many city hotels lack onsite lots. Some airport hotels offer free parking or discounted multi-day rates.
- While tipping is not required in the UK, it is appreciated: add 10-15% for restaurant service (if not included) and tip £1-2 (approx. $1.25 to $2.50) per bag for porters. Check your receipt, as service charges may already apply.
- Contact the hotel in advance to share any special needs such as step-free access, dietary restrictions, or allergy requirements. Most chain hotels can accommodate if notified at least 48 hours before check-in.
- Reserve specific amenities like accessible rooms, baby cots, or UK to EU adapters in advance, as availability can be limited. Confirm your request at booking or by contacting reception directly.
- Consult hotel reception or the concierge for tailored local suggestions such as restaurants, stadium tours, or bus schedules, since staff have up-to-date knowledge of Cardiff events and transport.
- Read recent guest reviews on cleanliness and noise, especially if staying on weekends or event nights near the city center. Look for detailed comments about pub proximity or festival periods that may impact your rest.
- Pack layers for Cardiff’s changeable weather; temperatures range 6-20°C (43-68°F) and rain is common year-round. A waterproof jacket and umbrella are recommended between October and April.
- Verify if your hotel provides free Wi-Fi and whether a traditional Welsh breakfast is included in your rate or available for a fee. Breakfast choices often range from continental to hot local dishes.
- Review Cardiff’s event schedule, such as international rugby, concerts, or festivals, before booking, as rates and availability can shift rapidly on high-demand weekends. Major events are listed on the city and stadium websites.
- Share your traveler type when booking: families should request family rooms or cots, while business guests may need onsite meeting rooms and confirmed high-speed Wi-Fi. Most large hotels will confirm these in advance.
