Where to stay in Virginia Tech Montgomery Executive Airport
Learn about the top neighbourhoods of Virginia Tech Montgomery Executive Airport
One of the state's most vibrant college towns, Blacksburg is home to Virginia Tech. Although the metropolitan area has more than 150,000 residents, Blacksburg retains a small-town feel, thanks to its many annual festivals that draw people from all over the region. Nearby Christianburg's Starlite Drive-in is one of the few remaining in this part of the country. You are near many lovely nature preserves, including Jefferson National Forest. Roanoke Regional Airport is a 45-minute drive east.
Radford University and New River recreation reign supreme in this Blue Ridge area along the New River. Kayak, fish or tube along the river, or opt for exploring the region's several hiking and bicycling trails. Radford shops and restaurants are within a short walk of the Radford University campus, and the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech offers a great place for golfing just across the river from campus. Speaking of Virginia Tech - the campus is about 20 minutes from here.

Top Tips
- Book your hotel at least 3-6 months ahead for major Virginia Tech events, as room rates often double and central Blacksburg hotels sell out fast during football weekends or graduation. Compare flexible rates if your dates coincide with campus events and verify event dates directly with the university calendar.
- Hotels within 0.5-1 mile of Virginia Tech offer easy pedestrian or Blacksburg Transit (BT) access. If you arrive via Virginia Tech Montgomery Executive Airport (BCB), coordinate airport pickup with the FBO in advance, as there is no direct commercial shuttle to downtown.
- Parking in central Blacksburg may cost $8-$15 per night, with occupancy taxes of 10-12% added to bills. Confirm whether self-parking, gated, or overnight arrangements are included to avoid surprise charges, and ask for specifics if booking online.
- All major hotel chains near Virginia Tech offer free Wi-Fi and business centers, but speeds and printing services can vary. If you need reliable access or meeting space, check for enhanced Wi-Fi options or reserve business amenities before arrival.
- Review guest ratings on Google or TripAdvisor to check trends in noise, cleanliness, and Wi-Fi reliability at your chosen property. Focus on recent feedback from the last 6-12 months for Blacksburg and campus-adjacent hotels.
- Flexible cancellation policies are common in this region, and many hotels permit free cancellation up to 24-48 hours before check-in. Reconfirm terms at booking, especially during Virginia Tech event periods when policies may be stricter.
- Bring valid government-issued photo ID and the physical card used for booking, as most hotels place a pending hold of $50-$100 for incidentals. Notify your hotel if arriving after 11 p.m. or if you require early check-in, as these policies can vary.
- Follow standard U.S. hotel tipping: $1-$2 per bag for bellhops, $2-$5 per night for housekeeping (left daily), and $2-$5 for valet, where offered. Tipping is customary and appreciated by local staff.
- Unlock local flavor by asking hotel staff for dining and recreation recommendations. Blacksburg offers campus attractions, breweries, and access to the Huckleberry Trail (7 miles); many front desks provide updated guides for free BT transit and nearby venues.
- Pack layered clothing, including a light jacket even in spring. Night temps in Blacksburg can drop below 50°F (10°C) due to elevation, and winters may bring snow, so check forecasts before travel.
- Hotels along I-81 or in Christiansburg (7 miles southwest) typically offer nightly rates 15-30% lower than central Blacksburg. Ask about Virginia Tech affiliate or event-based discounts at booking.
- Expect peak traffic and street noise within 0.5 mile of Lane Stadium during football games and major events; higher-floor or rear-facing rooms reduce disturbances. For game-day energy, book early in downtown Blacksburg and allow extra arrival time.
- Smoking is banned in most hotels, and pet policies vary, including breed or size limits and $20-$50 fees per night. Contact the hotel to confirm in-room rules in advance, as violations may incur $100 or higher cleaning fees.
- Arrange your transfer from Roanoke–Blacksburg Regional Airport (ROA, 25 miles away) before landing, since late-night rideshares may be limited. Verify rates and vehicle availability in-app after 10 p.m.
- Request cribs, connecting rooms, or accessible rooms with ramp and visual alarm when booking, as Blacksburg hotels offer a range but may have limited inventory for specific needs. Confirm mini-fridge or microwave availability for families or extended stays.
- Private flyers to BCB should arrange pickup with the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) and alert their hotel of exact ETA, as there is no scheduled bus or shuttle between BCB and town. Local car services may require at least 24 hours’ notice.
