Location and the amenities at the location.
Location was right across the street from Sugar Mountain. It was a beautiful resort and we were able to walk around the premises where they had a lake a spots to sit. They had games to play outside, such as basketball and they had a large indoor pool.

Top Tips
- Reserve Boone hotels 45-90 days in advance for Appalachian State events such as home football games or graduation. Downtown hotels often reach full occupancy on campus weekends and advanced booking increases your choice and price flexibility.
- Opt for hotels along US-321 or King Street within 0.5 to 1.5 miles of downtown for improved winter driving safety, since these main roads receive more frequent snow and ice treatment than steeper, higher-elevation routes.
- Pack clothing for elevation-based temperature shifts, as Boone sits at around 3,300 ft and nighttime temperatures commonly run 10-20°F cooler than North Carolina lowland areas, even in summer.
- Contact your hotel directly to confirm game-day parking or shuttle details for Appalachian State University events. Parking is limited and municipal lots nearby may require permits.
- Request a ground-floor or accessible room at Boone's inns and B&Bs, especially in historic properties where elevators are rare and most rooms require using stairs.
- Clarify parking arrangements before booking a hotel downtown, as paid street and lot parking fills quickly during major events. Ask whether your rate includes a reserved onsite space.
- Plan ahead for late-night transit, as ride-share services like Uber and Lyft have low overnight availability in Boone. Check the latest AppalCART bus schedules or book hotel taxi pick-up if your arrival is after midnight.
- Expect hotel demand to spike during Boone’s fall foliage peak, usually mid-to-late October. Book 30-60 days in advance for better rates and choose flexible cancellation policies if your plans may change.
- Confirm all taxes on your hotel bill, since North Carolina lodging is subject to a 4.75% state sales tax plus additional county and municipal occupancy taxes. Ask for the total combined tax percentage to compare net rates.
