The location for health care
Cost-value tradeoff most acceptable. Included breakfast (though I didn't have time to eat), that started early, at 5am. No extra 'Facility Levy' on departure that I was charged at my last hotel last month.
The rooms were clean and the breakfast was good. A toaster would have been nice.

Top Tips
- Book summer stays 2 to 3 months ahead to save 15-25%. Thunder Bay’s hotel demand increases 30-40% from June to August during events like the Blues Festival and waterfront powwows.
- Factor in approximately 15.5% for taxes on your hotel bill. This covers Ontario’s 13% Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) and a 2.5% Municipal Accommodation Tax. Review your reservation summary to confirm taxes are included; some business or accessibility rates may qualify for exemptions—ask your hotel.
- Downtown and Prince Arthur's Landing offer the highest concentration of restaurants and attractions within 1 km, including the waterfront marina and Thunder Bay Art Gallery. Most major sidewalks have curb cuts and step-free access.
- Typical Wi-Fi speeds at mid-range to upper-mid-range hotels are 25-75 Mbps. If you require reliable video calls, confirm with your hotel about Wi-Fi speeds and ask if quiet business centers or meeting rooms are available.
- Thunder Bay’s municipal tap water is treated and safe to drink. Many hotels and public venues offer bottle refill stations. If you need assistance or adaptive cups, ask the front desk; step-free access is standard in hotel common areas.
- Prepare for winter driving conditions from October to April due to snow and ice. Check if your hotel offers heated parking or snow removal services. Ontario recommends winter tires from October to April; confirm vehicle equipment before arrival.
- For travel beyond downtown, such as Kakabeka Falls (40 km west), a rental car is often necessary. Some hotels offer shuttles or can arrange accessible taxis with advance notice.
- For major events like the Blues Festival, hotel rates can rise 20-30% and book out 4-6 months early. Check local event calendars or ask your hotel to avoid surprises.
