Food is good, customer service good ,workers nice to us
I’m very disappointed that they did not let me cancel when I booked the wrong date .. on top of that they didn’t let me cancel the same day. They did not inform me that the pool was being under construction, which is false advertising.

The size was large enough to be comfortable. Not crowded with obese women being serviced by men of color from colonial oppression and subjugation.
The rule was full of bugs And the AC was not blowing good air

Amazing food, especially the Jamaican food in the buffet which was by far the best quality buffet I've ever had and even beats some high end restaurants. Beautiful resort, mostly great staff & service, great massage & room service

My experience at Ocean St. James was absolutely amazing! Two bartenders, truly stood out. I’m not even a drinker, but it was the way they treated others—Clive the bellhop wonderful then to top it off the head Chef magnificent

Location was close enough to down town/hip strip but not in the heart of things and you felt relatively safe
Best part was the team of entertainers that interacted with us everyday to make you feel part of the family. The whole team aroudn the pool was awesome. All the servers for food and beverage were excellent as well
I do not normally enjoy foods at all-inclusive hotels but I DID at the RIU Palace. The selections were varied, the quality and taste of the foods were excellent, and an ample amount was available. The beverage bar was a first class adult beverage bar!

Top Tips
- Book Montego Bay hotels 2-4 months ahead for Reggae Sumfest (mid-July) or 3-6 months before Christmas and New Year to avoid 30-60% rate increases and potential sellouts. Major events spike demand citywide, affecting large chains and boutique hotels. Set up loyalty program or hotel alert notifications and monitor local event calendars for other dates with high demand.
- Choose your Montego Bay hotel based on proximity to Sangster International Airport (MBJ): hotels along the Hip Strip are 5-10 minutes away, Rose Hall resorts are 20-30 minutes, and Negril is a 1.75-2 hour drive. Ask your hotel or resort if they include or arrange shuttle transfers, and factor airport transfer time into your booking.
- Verify what is included at all-inclusive Montego Bay resorts before booking, as premium liquor, offsite transfers, and some à la carte restaurants are often excluded. Check if your package covers all meals, branded alcohol, and airport transfers. If you need accessible room features, confirm availability and whether these are included in your rate.
- Public beaches like Doctor’s Cave on Gloucester Ave may charge small gate or towel rental fees. Confirm if your hotel includes private beach access or provides complimentary day passes to avoid daily charges. If you require accessible entry, ask your hotel or the beach facility about available accessible points and exclusive services.
- Expect frequent timeshare and excursion sales pitches near the Montego Bay cruise terminal and along Gloucester Ave. Treat unsolicited offers as sales pitches, request written terms before agreeing to anything, and do not feel pressured to commit on the spot. Hotel concierge services can arrange vetted excursions for added convenience and peace of mind.
- Tip 10-15% in Montego Bay restaurants, but check your bill first as many add a 10% service charge automatically. Only tip extra for exceptional service. Service charges for on-property dining may vary between hotels, so verify the policy onsite.
- Pay in Jamaican dollars (JMD) or request local-currency charges when using your card at hotels and vendors to avoid dynamic currency conversion, which usually adds a marked-up exchange rate. ATMs at most hotels dispense local currency and concierges can help with exchange questions.
- Confirm with your Montego Bay hotel whether guest rooms and emergency systems are covered by backup generators before relying on uninterrupted power, as scheduled outages and load-shedding can occur. Guests with medical equipment or accessibility needs should notify the hotel in advance and request written confirmation about generator coverage.
- Check Montego Bay Marine Park regulations before snorkeling from hotel beaches, as only certain areas allow unguided entry and non-reef-safe gear is often restricted to protect marine life. Ask your hotel if guided snorkeling is available or if rentals comply with reef protection guidelines. Certified guides or environmental briefings may be available at partner hotels.
- Prioritize Montego Bay hotels that advertise 24/7 security or fully gated access if you plan independent evening walks. The Hip Strip and Rose Hall areas have higher private security presence. If you need step-free access or visual alarms, confirm with the hotel that entrances are well-lit, staffed, and accessible for all guests.
