Top Tips
- Choose Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) for the shortest transfer—ABE is about 6-8 miles (15-20 minute drive) from downtown Allentown. Rideshare or taxi fares are typically $20-$40 each way, varying by time of day and surge pricing. If arriving late or with accessibility needs, contact your hotel in advance to confirm accessible shuttle or taxi options.
- Book 14-60 days ahead for PPL Center events; reserving 2-8 weeks before major concerts or sports dates helps reduce last-minute price surges and room shortages, since prime hotels fill first. Set a calendar reminder for ticket release dates to improve your rate and room choices.
- Hotels along US-22 or near Lehigh Valley Mall (Whitehall/Allentown outskirts) usually provide free parking and complimentary breakfast, and are 8-12 minutes by car from downtown. Save $10-$60 per night compared to central Allentown hotels and confirm at booking whether breakfast or parking is included.
- Staying on or near Hamilton Street (Center City) means walkable access to dining, retail, and public transit within 0.2-0.8 miles of both PPL Center and the Allentown Transportation Center. For car-free stays or accessible transit, review hotel shuttle schedules and ask about local ride programs supporting accessible transportation.
- Choose lodging within a 5-minute walk of the Allentown Transportation Center or PPL Center for straightforward access to regional bus services like Trans-Bridge Lines or LANta. Staying close reduces transfers and simplifies luggage handling, especially for families or travelers without cars.
- Compare downtown hotel nightly parking fees with municipal garages for stays over 6 hours. Municipal garages 1-3 blocks from the arena generally charge $1-$2 per hour, which can be less expensive for multi-hour daytime visits than many hotels' nightly parking rates. Travelers needing accessible parking should confirm available spaces in advance.
- Historic bed and breakfasts, such as Sayre Mansion or converted homes, may lack elevators. Request ground-floor or step-free accessible rooms when booking for easier mobility, particularly if traveling with strollers, wheelchairs, or large luggage.
