It was great to have the private mini cabin rather than a normal hotel style room. The location was awesome. The lady at the office was very nice and made sure we were comfortable and had a great time.
Very nice and very clean, and the area was beautiful.
The location of the property was beautiful, we really loved that it was super close to town, but also far enough that it wasn't crowded. The whirlpool tub and kitchenette were GREAT amenities and the staff at the main office was SO kind and prompt to answ

The room was really nice! The beds are comfortable and because it's removed from the beaten path it's very quiet.
The view from the room was beautiful and was spacious clean, all staff was great from the front desk to the breakfast staff and the cleaning people. Breakfast was excellent and pool was nice.
We love the breakfast and that it is offered until 9:30! All staff was friendly, but we especially love the couple who works breakfast and the grounds. They are wonderful people who take pride in their work and work hard to make sure guests are happy.

Top Tips
- Reserve your room 60-120 days in advance for peak winter holidays or summer race weekends to avoid 25-60% price increases. Small, independent hotels in Ruidoso often sell out fast, and early booking gives you a wider selection and access to amenities like pools or onsite dining at major chains.
- Pack layers and high-SPF sunscreen. Ruidoso sits at 6,920 ft elevation, with summer days of 75-85°F (24-29°C) and nights as low as 45-55°F (7-13°C). High-altitude UV means poolside relaxation or hiking requires extra protection.
- Select your hotel based on your main activity. Ski Apache is 15-20 minutes (12-16 miles) from most central hotels, while Ruidoso Downs racetrack is only 5-10 minutes (2-4 miles) away. Many leading hotels offer shuttle services; confirm with the front desk.
- Renting a car is recommended, as rideshares and taxis often do not operate outside central Ruidoso or at Ski Apache. Plan car rentals or shuttle pick-ups 30-60 minutes ahead during events. Most major hotels have onsite parking and can assist with local transportation advice.
- If driving between December and March, carry snow chains or use winter tires for mountain roads (NM-48, US-70/70B). Check the New Mexico DOT website for chain or closure advisories before you travel. Local hotels can provide the latest road updates at the concierge or front desk.
- Verify hotel Wi-Fi speed before booking if you plan remote work. Ask for a recent speed test screenshot and aim for at least 25 Mbps for smooth video calls, as speeds in Lincoln County can vary widely between properties.
- Request an accessible or step-free room early when booking. Some properties in Ruidoso, especially lodges or cabins, have stairs only. Large hotel chains maintain dedicated accessible inventory, but these rooms are limited in peak seasons.
- If booking at casino resorts like Inn of the Mountain Gods (12-15 miles from central Ruidoso), account for 20-25 minutes shuttle or drive time. Reservation terms may differ. Verify policies for cancellations or amenities directly with the resort.
- Review the latest Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) for Ruidoso if you have water quality concerns. Treated village tap water generally meets New Mexico state standards. Major hotels also provide bottled water or filtered dispensers in-room or at the lobby.
- Use in-town bank ATMs instead of casino ATMs, which often charge $3-$5 per cash withdrawal. Most Ruidoso hotels accept major cards, and the front desk can help locate the nearest surcharge-free ATM.
