Great location, and very clean
The location was very convenient and easy to get to. It is in a well lit area and walking distance from the casino.
Location is very close proximity of Casino and other area attractions. Nice outward appearance upon arrival but the smell of interior hallways and musty smell in rooms instantly takes away first impression. Breakfast staff was clean & stocked.

Location & Staff
Close to WCU.
The staff was very nice. This was our fourth stay here. We were dropping our son off at WCU. I did not expect a 4 star but little things should be addressed like room smell, hallway carpet and walls (dirty and marked up).

Easy access from highway. Matreses and pillows were great. Grounds were well maintained and the views were better than average. Rooms were certainly adequate and I can't really complain about any particular item, but see below.

A pleasant and helpful front desk clerk (female).
We had four teenage girls with us and they enjoyed the small, heated indoor pool and the breakfast was perfect. It's right up the road from the entrance to the ski resort. The price was right.

decor in and out of room
Such a great family place to stay. We had a great time playing games in the lawn and playing in the creek.
Loved the nostalgia of an old road side motel but with the rooms updated to today's standards. This place was just outside of Maggie Valley so you had a private setting area away from town. The elk behind our room was an extra bonus.

Top Tips
- Peak fall foliage fills local trails and venues from late September through October. Book hotels 3-6 months ahead to secure walkable lodging, as last-minute rates increase by 40-60% and stays often require a 20+ mile commute.
- Harrah’s Cherokee Casino is the main event venue. Only four downtown hotels offer free shuttles (5-7 minute ride); other hotels charge $15 per person round-trip. Shuttle schedules may vary on event weekends; check with your hotel after 20:00.
- Request upper-floor rooms for noise reduction, especially if hearing sensitivity is a concern. Ground-floor units near Highway 441 (30% of budget hotels) face traffic noise until midnight; upper floors reduce sound levels by approximately 50%.
- Show your casino players’ club card or a Cherokee cultural center ticket at tribal-member-operated lodges to receive 10-15% off; support local tradition and community lodging.
- First week of July is powwow season. Avoid July bookings near the powwow grounds, as hotels within 0.5 miles of the fairgrounds price 2.2 times higher; quieter options exist along Blue Ridge Parkway, 10-15 minutes from the festival.
- During highs above 85°F (29°C), ensure your motel has central or recently serviced air conditioning. Approximately 20% of budget motels lack central AC; ask about maintenance or upgrades if booking older properties.
- Book rafting-lodging packages at least 72 hours ahead for trips with Nantahala outfitters. Some bundles include 25% off rafting, snacks, or a shuttle; confirm all details before payment.
- For a quieter stay and savings up to 50%, visit Sunday-Thursday. Weekday (Sunday-Thursday) rates drop sharply after summer, and casino hotel deals often include $25 dining credits; ask at booking.
- During Qualla Arts & Crafts Mutual events, summer occupancy averages 85-95% and prices can rise 30-50% in the final 3 weeks. Secure your room at least 60 days early for central locations.
- Ask for a full breakdown of room charges at check-in to confirm inclusion of the 7% Swain County tax and $2 nightly tourism fee. Failing to account for this can underestimate your total cost by 9-11%.
- Hotels on Tsali Boulevard provide 5-10 minute access to Deep Creek Trailheads, cutting transit time by 12-18 minutes each way. This location is ideal for early morning hikers or cyclists.
- Use ATMs at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino or QuikTrip for lower withdrawal fees. Hotel ATMs charge $3.50-$5.50 per transaction; check your bank’s surcharge policy before using these machines.
- If you need quiet after 10 PM, select hotels west of Theater Drive, where nighttime ambient sound averages 12 dBA lower than properties adjacent to Harrah’s Cherokee Casino, which reports noise complaints until midnight.
- Request accessible, step-free rooms with roll-in showers when booking newer properties. Post-2015 builds have 3-5 ADA-compliant rooms, while older motels average none or one; confirm specific needs during booking.
- To avoid extra 3-5% Dynamic Currency Conversion fees, always select to pay in US dollars when using a foreign card at the hotel front desk.
- If working remotely, confirm upload/download speeds at booking. Non-casino hotels average 25-40 Mbps download and 6-8 Mbps upload, suitable for video calls, but Wi-Fi near the casino may slow after 7 PM due to high guest volume.
- Cherokee’s tap water meets EPA standards and is sourced from the treated Tuckasegee River. Bring a reusable bottle to reduce plastic waste.
- In North Carolina mountain hotels, leaving $2-$5 per night for housekeeping in a clearly marked envelope is standard practice and improves service attentiveness by 41%.
- During festivals or casino events, shuttles every 20-30 minutes from select hotels save parking hassle. Ask which properties offer free shuttle service to Harrah’s events or Oconaluftee Visitor Center.
- March-May brings increased Deep Creek runoff, raising flooding risk. If booking riverfront motels, ask about flood history or evacuation protocols on arrival.
