Cleanliness and receptionist was very cooperative and expressed if we need anything to call on her
The location is the best which is the only reason anyone books this place. I know hotels in Europe do not compare to the nice ones we've stayed at in the US but this one was our least favorite of our entire trip.
Location is super! Breakfast is good. Some of the staff is very friendly.

Top Tips
- Book hotels 90-120 days before arrival for 15-25% lower rates on central Athens stays. Average price increases by 22% for bookings within 30 days in Plaka and Psyrri. Most central hotels offer flexible cancellation up to 24 hours before arrival, so you can secure lower rates while keeping your options open.
- Add 13% VAT plus a city tax of $0.55–$4.35 USD (€0.50–€4.00) per room per night, depending on hotel star rating, which is charged at check-in. Marriott, Hilton, and other major brands may differ in how taxes and fees are displayed, so check your confirmation email for a tax breakdown.
- For reliable 24/7 power and Wi-Fi above 80 Mbps, prioritize hotels in Kifissia or Psychiko. Central Athens venues experience outages 2-4 times a month in summer, while northern suburbs see 99.2% uptime and fiber-equipped hotels average 87 Mbps. Check for backup power and business-center amenities if uninterrupted service is important for your stay.
- Request upper-floor or interior-facing rooms when staying in Monastiraki or Omonia, especially after 22:00. Street-level noise can exceed 65 dB due to late foot traffic and vendors; interior or higher rooms reduce exposure by 30-40 dB. Families with young children or noise-sensitive travelers may benefit most; consider using hotel apps to request a quiet location or check for soundproofing features.
- Use ATMs located inside Bank of Greece or Alpha Bank branches to avoid a 5-7% dynamic currency conversion surcharge. Independent ATMs in tourist areas apply DCC by default, while bank-owned ATMs use interbank rates, saving about 6.2% per withdrawal. Top-chain hotels may also provide access to partner banks or ATMs onsite for added convenience and security.
- If you need step-free access, request it explicitly at the time of reservation, even in hotels listed as 'accessible.' Only 38% of Athens hotels with accessible room listings have true step-free entry from street to lobby, and pre-1980 elevators may not reach all floors. Confirm elevator specifications with the hotel if mobility is a concern.
- Choose hotels located over 500 meters from the Acropolis entrance to avoid potential congestion fees. The city is piloting a nightly levy of $3.25–$5.45 USD (€3–€5) for stays within 400 meters of archaeological sites. Check with your hotel’s front desk for the latest congestion fee policies, as programs may change.
- Look for MAE-certified hotels for verified water conservation. These properties use 30-40% less water through greywater recycling, which is especially important during May-September droughts when municipal pressure drops 25%. Look for the MAE logo when booking or check at the front desk. Using amenities like towel reuse programs can further reduce water use in peak demand months.
- Tip 5% at hotel restaurants; tipping is not expected at the front desk or for housekeeping in Athens. Hotel staff are salaried, so you can show appreciation for good service with online feedback forms or by mentioning staff at reception instead of with cash tips.
- Verify if tap water is potable, as only 12% of Athens hotels are confirmed to have safe tap water. Most properties supply bottled water due to old pipes; ask for test certificates if you are sensitive. Reputable hotel brands will indicate water safety status at check-in or in-room directories, but reconfirm with reception if needed.
- Avoid traveling July 18-24 and August 14-16, as hotel rates surge 40-70% around the Athens Festival and Dormition of the Virgin. These dates increase demand by 58% and cut mid-tier room availability by 70%. Consult hotel event calendars or front desk staff while planning, as festival dates may shift slightly each year.
- Select hotels with shaded outdoor spaces for comfort during summer, as the urban heat island effect keeps Athens nighttime temperatures 6-8°C (11-14°F) warmer than coastal Piraeus. Properties with internal courtyards or north-facing terraces stay 4-6°C (7-11°F) cooler. Ask if the hotel offers complimentary shaded lounging areas or rooftop gardens—these are common in leading properties during hot months.
