It was a place to sleep
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! The place is a pit in a lousy location. The ball on the security latch was broken off. As a retired police officer it was plain to my eye that someone had kicked the door open at some point and was never fixed. See below
The front desk clerk was very friendly and helpful.

The wooden fixtures
I liked the breakfast and coffee bar discounts,
I did not like this motel. I feel like the hotel is a joke. So much for family time. Could not even go to family dollar with out the front desk acting like my family was going to steal. I'm sorry my family works hard for every thing we do

The hotel was getting renovated. The pool was closed, no ice in the hotel, my kids cried every time we got into the elevator. The elevator made a terrible sound and the stairs were blocked off.

Staff was amazing. Front desk clerk Went out of her way to make sure we wouldn't be double-charged,was friendly and helpful. Seems a small thing but we'd had dealt w/ double charges at 3 hotels prior to this one (all during the same trip).

Top Tips
- Book Riverton hotels 3-6 weeks in advance for summer (June-August) to secure rates 20-30% lower due to increased outdoor recreation demand. Always check cancellation policies in case your plans change.
- Expect an additional 8-10% in combined state and local taxes for Riverton accommodations, as Wyoming has a 5% state sales tax plus local additions. Confirm whether taxes are included in your quoted rate at booking or due at check-in to avoid surprises.
- Consider lodging in nearby Lander or Dubois to save 10-15% on nightly rates compared to Riverton, especially if your activities are spread across Fremont County. Drive times to Riverton average 30-50 minutes depending on your route.
- Check Wi-Fi speeds before booking if you need to work remotely, as some Riverton hotels report speeds below 25 Mbps, which can impact video calls. Major brands like Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express typically offer more reliable Wi-Fi - verify current speeds in recent user reviews.
- Plan evening dining in advance, as most Riverton restaurants and hotel dining close by 9-10 PM, leaving limited late-night options. Major chains often have in-hotel snack shops or room service—confirm availability if arriving late.
- Contact hotels directly to confirm pet fees; many Riverton properties charge a flat fee, usually $15-$50 per pet, per stay, instead of per night. Chains like Motel 6 and Holiday Inn Express typically have pet-friendly policies and may offer amenities like designated areas.
- Bring a reusable water bottle, as Riverton tap water is treated and generally safe to drink, offering a sustainable alternative to bottled water. Major hotels may provide water bottle filling stations—ask at the front desk.
- Download offline maps for Fremont County in advance, as cell service may be spotty or nonexistent in rural areas and major highways outside Riverton. Use your hotel's Wi-Fi to download maps before day trips.
- Book hotels 2-3 months ahead for events like the Fremont County Fair (late July); rates typically rise 25-35% due to demand and limited supply, with under 10 hotels in Riverton. Enroll in chain loyalty programs for early access to rooms or flexible cancellations.
- Select hotels in downtown Riverton for up to 20% lower crime rates according to FBI data, reducing late-night travel risk compared to outskirts. Check for security features like keycard entry and on-site staff for added peace of mind.
- Confirm both Wi-Fi and power stability for remote work; expect 10-25 Mbps speeds and possible outages lasting 2-4 hours during winter storms. Ask if the hotel offers generator-backed rooms or business amenities for continuity during disruptions.
- Request an accessible room when booking, as 50-60% of Riverton's chain hotels provide them. Features often include step-free access and visual alarms; confirm 1-2 weeks in advance due to limited availability.
- Reserve during shoulder seasons (May or September) to access hotel rates roughly 30% lower than peak summer (June-August), with fewer crowds and mild weather. Most key amenities like pools and complimentary breakfasts remain available in these periods.
- Book early if visiting during the Central Wyoming Fair in July, as rooms sell out 2-3 months in advance and rates can double, reaching about $200 per night compared to $90 off-season. Choose flexible rates when possible to allow for changes.
- Request ground-floor rooms at older motels, as many budget properties lack elevators and require carrying luggage up stairs. Confirm step-free access with the hotel before arrival, especially if you have mobility needs.
- Use local shuttle services for airport transfers from Riverton Regional (RIW), with pre-arranged shuttles costing $20-$30 versus $50 or more for taxis, which may be unavailable. Some major hotels offer their own shuttle—check schedules when booking.
- Carry small bills to tip housekeeping, with $2-$5 per day standard for improved service even if not widely expected in rural Wyoming. Major chains may provide in-room envelopes or suggested amounts as a courtesy.
- Avoid first-floor street-facing rooms downtown due to potential late-night noise, particularly near Main Street. Request rooms facing inner courtyards or away from main roads for quieter stays.
- Book Best Western or similar hotels on Riverton's west side for quieter stays; downtown experiences frequent train noise, with trains passing 2-3 times an hour. Call ahead to request a room facing away from the tracks for additional quiet.
- Use local ATMs to avoid $5 foreign transaction fees some hotels may charge. Riverton First Federal Credit Union is a local option; some major hotels may partner with banks for discounted ATM access—ask at the front desk.
- Plan ahead for winter internet disruptions, as heavy snow can affect connectivity. Inquire at booking about availability of backup generators or business amenities to ensure your work is not interrupted during storms.
- Double-check total costs with hotels such as Holiday Inn Riverton, since daily resort fees of $15-$20 may not appear in initial online listings. Always review fee summaries before confirming your reservation.
- Book lodging 6-8 weeks before the Wind River Tribal Fair; rooms within 5 miles of the site increase 35-50% in price and often sell out two weeks early. Check cancellation terms before booking early.
- For more reliable internet, consider hotels within 3 miles of I-80, such as Best Western Plus in Lander (about 45 minutes east), which averages 52 Mbps download speeds versus 18 Mbps at downtown Riverton hotels. Note transit times to local attractions when booking.
- Verify final prices with hotels, as some online travel agencies may omit the 2% Fremont County lodging surcharge in addition to the 6% Wyoming state tax, resulting in an 8% uplift. Check your payment summary page for a complete breakdown of charges.
- Request a ground-floor or accessible room at older motels, as 70% of Riverton hotels built before 2000 lack elevators. Ask about ramp access or step-free entry if needed.
- Always select USD when paying by credit card at hotel desks to avoid dynamic currency conversion (DCC) markups of 3-5%. Check if the hotel terminal displays a currency preference prompt at check-in.
- Prioritize hotels with onsite laundry during hunting season (October-November), as lodging with laundry books 40% faster in October. Self-service machines average $3.50 per load, and some chains provide free detergent for guests.
- Carry bottled water if you have health concerns; Riverton’s municipal supply exceeded EPA coliform limits in 3 of the last 5 Q3 reports, making it intermittently not potable. Most hotels provide bottled water or water filters in guest rooms during advisories.
- If visiting in winter, avoid booking near the Washakie County line; secondary roads such as US-26 west receive plowing 4-6 hours after I-80 zones. Staying east of 14th Street provides faster access to freshly cleared routes. Major hotels often provide weather and road alerts at the front desk.
- If you need EV charging, verify that your hotel offers Level 2 charging (240V); only Sleep Inn and Holiday Inn Express in Riverton provide it. Level 1 (120V) charging takes 25 hours or more for a full charge. Confirm charger availability and reservation policy where offered.
- Choose hotels with kitchenettes to reduce food costs; Riverton grocery prices run about 15% above the national average, and kitchenettes can cut daily meal expenses by $20-$30 versus eating out. Some chains also offer complimentary breakfast for extra savings.
