Top Tips
- Book hotels 45-90 days ahead for summer weekends (June–August) and during the Washington State International Kite Festival, as these periods commonly sell out major chains and smaller lodgings. Early reservations increase your chance of preferred room types and can unlock loyalty discounts or early booking rates.
- Select hotels on Pacific Avenue or the west (ocean) side for direct access—within a 0-5 minute walk—to the continuous Long Beach sand. This helps you avoid vehicle transfers or paid parking. Many chain hotels provide complimentary onsite parking, but confirm the policy when reserving.
- Check NOAA tide forecasts daily. High tides and spring tides can submerge low-lying beach parking or make beach driving unsafe, sometimes within hours. Ask hotel staff about the safest walking and driving routes during periods of tidal change or special events.
- Many local motels are older and only feature stairs. Request a ground-floor or accessible room if you need step-free entry, or ask for an upper-floor room for reduced corridor noise. Major hotel brands in Long Beach may offer elevators and ADA-compliant features, including visual alarms, roll-in showers, or ramp access—verify what’s available when booking.
- Prepare for steady onshore winds and sand intrusion year-round by bringing windproof outerwear and sealed luggage. For quieter rooms, request an interior-facing or upper-floor unit, as ocean-facing properties can experience higher wind and ground-level sand. Ask if the hotel offers indoor lounges or complimentary windbreak gear.
- If you require stable connectivity for remote work, confirm minimum Wi-Fi speed guarantees (such as 25+ Mbps) or request a wired connection in advance. Cell service may be stronger than hotel Wi-Fi in parts of the peninsula, especially on major providers like Verizon and AT&T—confirm LTE coverage with your carrier.
- From fall through spring, most local restaurants and shops close by 9-10 PM, limiting late-night dining and grocery options. Shop earlier, ask about 24-hour venues in Ilwaco or Astoria at check-in, and check if your hotel has an onsite market for essentials or snacks.
- Most beachfront hotels welcome pets for an added fee, typically $15-$35 USD per night. Policies on allowed breeds and sizes can vary, so confirm the total fee, bring proof of vaccination if requested, and request a room near designated pet relief areas for convenience.
