Top Tips
- Book 45-90 days in advance for October-November weekends, as the Texas Renaissance Festival increases demand and pushes hotels toward full occupancy with higher rates. Consider flexible dates or midweek stays to access lower rates in Montgomery County hotels.
- Select hotels north of Loop 336 (FM 1097/FM 2854) to be within 5-15 minutes of Lake Conroe marinas, reducing transfer time for early morning boating. Downtown Conroe properties average 20-30 minutes to most marinas.
- Hotels along I-45 or Loop 336 offer the fastest access to Houston and The Woodlands, saving 15-30 minutes each way compared to downtown. Distances are 16-20 miles to The Woodlands and IAH from these properties.
- Rent a car or arrange transportation from IAH (Bush Intercontinental), located 45-70 minutes from Conroe. Public transit for visitors is limited, so check car rental desk hours and shuttle options before arrival.
- Pack for 90-100°F (32-38°C) days and possible heavy rain June through November. July highs average in the low to mid 90s°F, with hurricane season from June 1 to November 30 heightening storm risk. Monitor local weather and bring light rain gear.
- Downtown boutique hotels may charge for parking or have limited spaces, while most I-45 area chains list free parking online. Verify parking costs and on-site availability before arrival.
- Bring EPA-registered repellent if staying near Lake Conroe from April to October and request a screened room. Mosquito activity is common around lakes and landscaped hotels in warm months.
- Check guest reviews or ask hotels for typical Wi-Fi speeds before booking if you plan to work remotely. Wi-Fi bandwidth and daytime noise levels can vary, even where free Wi-Fi is listed.
- For walkability to daytime dining, target downtown hotels near Loop 336 with restaurants within 0.1-0.6 miles. For late dinner or nightlife, plan on transport, as The Woodlands offers more late-night options.
