I liked the fact of my rooms location. Had a pool side room, and was close to where my vehicle was parked. I also enjoyed the breakfast. I was shocked by the ratings for this hotel. If you want a Hilton then go one. I would definitely stay again.

The staff were jerks. Nice until the first bit of any resistance. I had stayed there a number of times. Never was charged a $35 cat feel or demanded to pay $200 deposit. When asked for a refund so I could choose a more friendlier environment I was refused

Top Tips
- Book 3-6 months ahead for Civil War anniversary events and major reenactments each July. Hotel rates typically rise 40-70% closer to event dates, and bookings open 180 days in advance on most platforms. Compare rates early to secure better deals, especially at chain hotels near downtown, where room inventory is limited during peak periods.
- Anticipate an 11.5% total occupancy tax on your hotel bill, which includes 6% state sales tax and 5.5% local hotel tax. This adds roughly $15 (approx. €14) to every $130 (about €121) in nightly rates. Review the final price breakdown at booking to avoid surprises at check-out.
- Select hotels on Steinwehr or Baltimore Avenue for walkability. Locations within 0.3 miles (500 meters) of Gettysburg National Military Park Museum let you reach the entrance in about 12-18 minutes on foot, reducing reliance on shuttles during busy days.
- Check Wi-Fi speed if you plan to work remotely. Public areas such as the Gettysburg Hotel lobby or National Park Visitor Center offer 40-60 Mbps, while many B&Bs and small inns may have speeds below 15 Mbps after 8 PM. Ask your hotel for their typical peak-hour bandwidth before you arrive.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) when paying at hotel front desks, as this can add 3-5% to your bill. Always opt to pay in USD for the most favorable exchange rate from your home bank.
- Request a room with central HVAC instead of a window unit for fall and winter stays. Around 60-70% of historic inns still use window heaters, but central systems maintain steadier temperatures during October-November nights that can drop to 40°F (4°C). Confirm temperature controls at booking if you have comfort concerns.
- Choose properties advertising step-free access if you have mobility needs. Only about 35% of Gettysburg’s 100+ hotels offer step-free entrances, and many historic area hotels lack elevators, so request accessible features in advance.
- For quieter nights, seek west-side inns rather than motels along Route 15 north of town, where traffic noise often exceeds 60 dB after dark. Confirm your room's proximity to major roads if you are sensitive to noise.
- If you have severe allergies, call ahead to verify whether 'free breakfast' includes clearly labeled nut or gluten-free options. About 80% of small inns do not provide allergen labeling, and shared kitchens increase cross-contamination risk.
- Bring a reusable water bottle, as tap water meets EPA standards but water pressure can dip below 1.5 gallons per minute in some older inns during high-use periods. Reliable refill points are available at parks and the visitor center.
- Skip on-site event parking fees at downtown hotels, which can add $15 (approx. €14) per night. Instead, park at public garages like Schmucker Hall for $5 (about €4.50) per day and walk 0.4 miles to your hotel.
- Tip housekeeping $2-$5 (about €1.80-€4.50) daily, as service staff rotate between rooms and daily gratuities are a standard local practice. Leave your tip in a marked envelope or visible spot for clarity.
