So close to the park
The children loved e everything about the hotel. This generation of children are hooked on electronic devices for entertainment. I grew up playing games and going outside to play. My great niece and nephews didn't once ask for their devices.
The room and lobby are amazing. Nice bar too.

After refusing to stay in the first room that was given to me, I was sent upstairs to room 232. It was okay. The picture of the hotel is deceiving. Dirty. I have the pictures of the room. Unbelievably dirty and smelly.

Top Tips
- Secure median hotel savings of 12-18% in Middletown by booking 21-30 days before arrival on non-refundable rates. Booking outside this window can lead to more volatile prices due to local event surges; always check cancellation terms before finalizing your reservation. Chain hotels like Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn typically release advance rates on their direct sites 3-4 weeks out.
- Factor an 8.75% tax on your Middletown hotel stay—Orange County’s 4.75% sales tax plus New York’s 4% lodging tax—often combined on your bill. Taxes may be listed as a single line item; verify your reservation breakdown for accuracy, as some booking platforms do not display the full tax until confirmation.
- Choose hotels near I-84 Exit 115 for rapid hospital access; Garnet Health Medical Center is 8-10 minutes by car. These properties suit travelers visiting patients or needing proximity to healthcare. International guests should confirm late check-out or flexible booking options, as hospital visits may be unpredictable.
- Request accessible rooms with step-free access and roll-in showers directly at Hampton Inn (325 Dolson Ave), Holiday Inn Express (134 Crystal Run Rd), or Comfort Inn (490 Route 17M). Only these three of 14 local hotels confirmed accessible bathrooms as of 2024. Contact properties directly for current accessibility details, elevator access, or visual alarms if needed.
- Avoid 4-7% dynamic currency conversion fees on non-US cards by selecting to pay in USD when asked at hotel kiosks or front desks. International travelers should check their own bank rates for cross-border purchases.
- Use the Middletown Transit shuttle zones along Route 17M for free rides, Monday to Saturday, 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM. This can reduce car dependence by up to 40% on errands; shuttle stop maps are usually available at major chain hotel front desks. Shuttles are generally accessible, but wheelchair users should confirm ramp or lift availability directly with the operator; hotel front desks can provide printed timetables.
- Expect median Wi-Fi upload speeds of 8.2 Mbps at chain hotels, suitable for streaming but limited for HD video uploads. For large uploads or video calls, try the hotel business center when possible. Wi-Fi speed can vary by room, so avoid peak usage times between 7-9 PM for the best results.
- Consider using an in-room filter or bottled water for drinking, as Middletown tap water meets federal standards but has reported trihalomethane levels near the 0.080 mg/L EPA limit. Some hotels may provide complimentary bottled water or lobby water stations; guests with health sensitivities should confirm options with hotel management.
- Tip housekeeping $2-$5 per night, left daily in a labeled envelope. Surveys show this leads to better room attention and ensures staff receive tips. Check if your hotel provides tip envelopes or ask the front desk, and note that tipping practices may differ for international guests.
- Verify parking for RVs or trucks, as 9 of 15 hotels with 'free parking' restrict vehicles over 20 feet or with dual rear wheels and enforcement varies. Confirm directly with your hotel, especially during events or peak occupancy; guests with accessibility needs should also ask about ramp access from the lot to lobby.
- Prioritize hotels with UL-certified smoke detectors; all Middletown hotels updated by 2022 following a fire code update, though a few older independent properties had delayed compliance. If you are sensitive to alarms, request a room nearest to the marked exit stairs.
- Stack AAA/CAA with corporate rates for an extra 5-9% off; 11 of 14 Middletown hotels honor AAA/CAA even if not advertised. Verify stackability when booking 'government' or 'contract' rates. International guests can present digital membership cards at check-in to access discounts, and direct phone reservations generally offer the most flexibility for discount application.
