Non Judgemental Staff
Nothing. I have stayed here several times and always enjoyed my stay, felt safe and clean. Not sure what happened but I did not feel safe and the room was far from clean. The one positive was the agent who checked me in on 12/31. Staff needs training.
Pretty much nothing

Clean, quiet, relaxing, near a lot of things to do, and really friendly helpful staff. They have wagons you can use during your stay so lugging everything from your car is much easier than expected.
The staff is stellar! I mean every one of them feels like an old friend. The location is so close to many things to do. The site itself is beautiful! Tastefully designed in every aspect! Breakfast is lovely at the club house too!

Location, price and nice staff. Will be staying here again.
I was skeptical at first, but this hotel exceeded my expectations. The peaceful creek view added a quaint charm that made the stay special. It?s not your typical hotel, & that uniqueness really stood out. It may not be for everyone, but I truly loved it.

Top Tips
- Book your hotel room 4 to 6 weeks ahead for Hudson Valley events, as last-minute rates can be 15% to 25% higher. Inventory for event weekends often drops below 30% availability within two weeks.
- Choose Kingston for hotel stays, as 3-star hotels average $149 to $199 per night, providing 12% to 18% lower rates than comparable options in New Paltz, which average $175 to $239. Compare both cities if your schedule is flexible.
- Verify if your hotel includes the 4% Ulster County occupancy tax; some budget properties may add $6 to $10 to a $150 to $250 nightly rate. Request a full cost breakdown before booking to avoid surprise charges at checkout.
- Prioritize hotels near Rondout Creek or I-587 for reliable Wi-Fi, reporting average speeds of 90 to 120 Mbps due to fiber nearby. Historic Stockade District inns may average 45 to 70 Mbps; confirm speeds if you need high-bandwidth access.
- Request step-free rooms when booking historic properties, as only 11 of 30 upper-tier hotels and B&Bs in the Stockade District have fully step-free access in all public areas.
- Avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) at hotel front desks, which can add 4% to 7% to your bill. Always choose to be charged in USD when using non-U.S. cards for a better rate.
- Use Kingston Plaza (0.6 mi west) or Wurts Mall (0.8 mi north) parking to avoid typical hotel self-parking fees of $15 per night in the Stockade District. Check plaza or mall parking policies for overnight or multi-day use.
- Stay west of Broadway for quieter nights, as hotels in this area average 40 to 48 dB, compared to 55 to 65 dB in the Stockade District core on weekends. This is helpful for light sleepers or families.
- Check for Green Key or LEED certification at mid-range hotels like Hotel Kinsley or Courtyard by Marriott, since most other area hotels lack verified sustainability programs.
- Skip front-desk taxi bookings; Uber or Lyft can be about 30% cheaper, with rides to Poughkeepsie Amtrak averaging $28 via app compared to $38 via hotel dispatch.
- Confirm water potability at B&Bs and older inns, as 6% of small Kingston accommodations, especially pre-1900 buildings, draw from private wells with intermittent testing. Ask at check-in or review recent water quality reports if available.
- Tip housekeeping $2 to $5 per night on your last day, as Kingston hotels typically rotate staff shifts and daily bills may be removed with trash. Use a marked envelope or hotel-branded option to help ensure your gratuity reaches the right attendant.
