Top Tips
- Book hotels 6-8 weeks ahead for summer stays to secure rates up to 20% below peak, as prices rise 25-40% from June to August due to increased demand.
- Account for 14-16% in total taxes on your hotel stay; Nassau County imposes an 8.875% state sales tax plus a 3-5% local occupancy tax.
- Select hotels within 0.5-1 mile of the Farmingdale Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) station for train access to NYC, with rides taking 25-35 minutes.
- Confirm your hotel has a backup generator if traveling during summer thunderstorms. This can prevent service disruptions by maintaining air conditioning and Wi-Fi.
- Request accessible rooms in advance; about 80% of Farmingdale hotels meet ADA standards, but confirming features like ramp access is crucial, especially in older buildings.
- Use bank ATMs to avoid 2-3% foreign transaction fees often charged by tourist-area ATMs. In-bank machines help minimize costs.
- Verify Wi-Fi speeds of 50-100 Mbps for remote work; mid-range hotels typically offer these speeds, suitable for focused productivity.
