Thank you for not putting the damn sink on the OUTSIDE of the bathroom! So many hotels do that and it drives me nuts. I liked being able to walk into the bathroom and actually be able to wash my hands and not be locked in a closet.

Top Tips
- Book your hotel 4 to 6 weeks before a University of Nebraska football game, as rates near Memorial Stadium can increase by 60-90% the week before. Confirm event dates and reserve early to secure better pricing and availability.
- Stay in the Haymarket District to enjoy 15-minute or shorter walks to Pinnacle Bank Arena, the seasonal Farmer’s Market, and downtown dining. Ask your hotel about local walking tours for a deeper neighborhood experience.
- Confirm your scheduled arrival and departure at Lincoln Airport (LNK), as late-night rideshare or rental car options are limited at this regional airport. Ask your hotel if they offer shuttle service or taxi partnerships for arrivals after 10 PM.
- Review hotel parking policies before booking downtown, as some Haymarket hotels include parking while others charge a nightly fee or use municipal garages that can add $15 to $30 per night. For electric vehicles, inquire about onsite charging availability.
- Request an interior or upper-floor room at downtown Haymarket hotels for quieter stays, as street-facing rooms can be affected by noise from bars, restaurants, and event traffic, especially on weekends or arena event nights.
- For state business, select hotels along the 13th to 17th Street corridor, just a short drive to the Nebraska State Capitol and agencies, to reduce weekday commute times. Ask if your hotel offers early breakfast or business center access.
- During concerts and college events at Pinnacle Bank Arena and UNL, hotel demand and rates can spike suddenly. Reserve a refundable or flexible rate room and confirm cancellation deadlines to stay protected against schedule changes.
- When paying at the hotel, select USD to avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) fees, which can add 3-5% due to unfavorable exchange rates. Ask the front desk to process your card in US dollars for consistent billing.
- Save 20-30% on nightly rates by booking hotels along Van Dorn Street or 48th Street, both 10-15 minutes by Uber from downtown and stadiums. Use your hotel’s shuttle service if available for convenient trips to central venues.
- At downtown and P Street hotels, request a room above the second floor to reduce late-night noise from bars and foot traffic by up to 50%. For sensitive sleepers, ask about rooms away from elevators or ice machines.
- If you work remotely, check hotel Wi-Fi speeds before booking. Extended-stay brands like Homewood Suites and Hyatt House offer median speeds of 105-130 Mbps, while budget chains average 45-65 Mbps. Ask about dedicated workspaces or onsite business centers if needed.
- Use ATMs inside TD Bank or First National Bank branches to avoid $3 to $5 surcharges common at independent ATMs in bars or gas stations. Confirm ATM locations and hours at check-in or with your hotel’s front desk.
- For mobility access, look for hotels with STEP (Service and Training for Excellence in Partnerships) certification; about 12% of Lincoln hotels, such as the Lincoln Marriott, meet this standard for step-free access and staff training. Contact your hotel directly to verify ramp access and accessible room features.
- Lincoln's tap water meets EPA standards and is safe to drink. Using a reusable bottle can reduce plastic waste by 5 bottles per stay, and many hotels offer refill stations or filtered water dispensers in public areas.
- Avoid check-in after 10 PM at independent motels on Old Cheney Road, as some non-branded properties have reported after-hours lockouts due to limited staffing, unlike branded chains with 24/7 desks. Arrange your arrival timing with the property if staying at a locally owned motel.
- Tip housekeeping $5 to $10 daily by leaving cash in an envelope with a thank-you note, supporting consistent service and reflecting local gratuity customs.
- Combine AAA/CAA and corporate discounts at chains like Holiday Inn, Best Western, or La Quinta for 10-15% total savings. Show both membership and employer ID at check-in or on your reservation to receive all benefits.
- During June to August, Lincoln averages 12 days above 95°F. Hotels with air-cooled window AC units in older motels have 20-30% higher failure rates than central AC properties. For stays during summer heat, confirm the air conditioning type and ask about maintenance response if comfort is a priority.
