Location to the main road that runs through Havre. The mattress in the room was very comfortable. The breakfast had a very nice assortment of food and drink and started nice and early. Shuttle service to and from the airport.

10

our room had a sink in the bathroom where the toilet and shower were and a sink outside the bathroom with a big mirror. BEST THING EVER!!! I don't know if every room is like that but I appreciate when the sink is outside the shower/toilet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Amtrak serve Havre, and how might that affect hotel location choices?

Amtrak’s Empire Builder stops daily in Havre. Most hotels are concentrated in the city and downtown corridor, with several options within 0.5 mile (0.8 km) of the station. Confirm the exact walking distance with your selected property.

Are there statewide or local hotel taxes in Havre, Montana?

Montana has no general sales tax, but hotels collect a statewide lodging tax (typically around 8% combined). Check your hotel bill or contact the City of Havre tax office for the current rate.

What are typical check-in/out norms and deposit practices at Havre hotels?

Most chain hotels offer check-in around 3:00 PM and check-out between 11:00 AM and noon. A government-issued ID and credit or debit card are usually required at check-in. Deposit amounts and early or late check fees vary; some hotels may require a $15 deposit. Confirm policies with your property.

When do Havre hotels see demand spikes due to seasonality or events?

Local demand increases during the academic calendar for Montana State University–Northern, especially around semester start or graduation. Hunting seasons from September to November also reduce room availability. Book early for these dates.

Are there coworking spaces or reliable remote-work facilities in Havre?

No widely listed commercial coworking spaces are available. Alternatives include using public Wi-Fi and study areas at the Havre Public Library or Montana State University–Northern campus. Non-students should call ahead to confirm campus building access and hours.

How does winter weather affect hotel availability and travel to/from Havre?

Northern Montana winters (November to March) bring snow and sub-freezing temperatures, causing possible rail and highway delays, including the Empire Builder train and U.S. Highway routes. Allow extra time for connections and check for travel alerts before departing.

How common are accessible rooms (step-free/elevator/roll-in) in Havre hotels?

Havre offers both older motels and newer chain properties, so accessibility features vary. Ask each hotel for specifics and request photos if you need step-free access, roll-in showers, or ADA rooms before booking.

What are common pet/family policies and likely fees at Havre hotels?

Pet policies vary by property and many economy motels charge pet fees, which may be around $15 per pet. Child age limits and crib availability are not standard; confirm details for cribs or extra beds in advance.

Are card payments accepted, and should I watch for dynamic currency conversion (DCC) or deposits in Havre?

Most hotels accept major U.S. credit and debit cards. Independent hotels may require a cash deposit or hold at check-in, often about $15. For foreign cards, decline dynamic currency conversion (DCC) and ask to pay in USD to avoid extra charges.

Top Tips

  • Rates at Havre hotels typically rise by 20-30% during major events like the annual county fair. Book 3 to 6 months in advance to secure wider selection and avoid elevated prices during peak dates.
  • Room locations facing away from the BNSF rail yard can significantly reduce nighttime noise. Confirm your room assignment on arrival, as trains often operate outside typical sleeping hours.
  • Wireless internet speeds may vary by property; call to confirm average bandwidth if you need reliable streaming or uploads. For critical connectivity, bring a cellular hotspot as backup due to mid-Montana’s variable service quality.
  • Free continental breakfast at many Havre hotels can save $15 USD per person daily. Confirm inclusion in your rate and ask about service hours, especially if departing early.
  • Peak summer visits can include a seasonal hotel fee of $15 to $20 USD per night. Request a written breakdown of all fees before booking to avoid surprises.
  • A 7% local lodging tax applies to all Havre hotel stays, typically adding $7 USD per night on a $100 USD room. Review your reservation summary to confirm the tax before finalizing payment.
  • Historic downtown hotels in Havre may lack elevators, so request a ground-floor accessible room or ask about step-free or ramp access if needed for mobility.
  • Northern Montana can see multi-day snow closures from November to March. Book flexible rates for winter stays and check Montana DOT (511) road conditions before travel.
  • Most grocery and pharmacy stores in Havre close by 21:00, and late-night dining options are limited. Stock up on essentials during the day to ensure you have snacks or medications overnight.
  • National midscale chains typically include breakfast and business center access in Havre, with most supporting loyalty points. Confirm by property which branded amenities, such as gym or mobile check-in, are available, as offerings can vary.
