They had a covered BBQ cooking and dining area where I enjoyed a cigar around 8pm during my one night visit. There was an outdoor ashtray in the area. The hotel rooms are well laid out very well equipped and comfortable. This chain is on my preferred list

Top Tips
- Book your hotel stay 3–4 weeks in advance to save 12-18% at most budget and midscale chains in Hagerstown. This timing helps secure both better rates and room selection, especially during peak travel periods.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) for foreign card payments to avoid extra fees. Use bank-operated downtown ATMs near Potomac Plaza to minimize withdrawal costs by $3-5 compared to third-party kiosks that often charge $15 per use.
- Choose hotels within 0.8 km (0.5 mi) of I-81 exits 7-10 for strong 4G/5G coverage and latency under 15 ms. Rural outskirts often see a 40-60% drop in service quality.
- Request an accessible, step-free room in hotels built before 1990, as only 38% in this group offer fully compliant step-free access (2022 county audit). Verify with your property ahead of arrival to ensure needs are met.
- Factor in a combined 11.5% tax on quoted hotel rates, with 6% state sales and 1.5% local lodging tax, which is lower than Frederick's 13.5%. Check if quoted rates already include taxes when comparing prices.
- Rates can surge 25-40% and availability drops up to 70% during the Great Train Expo (August) and Apple Butter Festival (October) within 5 km of event sites. For these dates, book early or choose properties farther from the city center to avoid elevated costs.
- Decline daily housekeeping to reduce linen waste by 1.8 kg (4 lbs) per stay. This supports water savings, especially critical during June-August when usage restrictions are in place.
- Select hotels near the I-70/I-81 junction for quick 12-18 minute access to Hagerstown Regional Airport or the MARC train station, making these a good fit for DC-bound commuters.
- Before booking independent motels along Dual Highway, confirm front desk hours. About 30% may have no staff after 10 PM, so call ahead to ensure late check-in support if arriving at night.
- Request allergy-friendly rooms with HEPA filtration, available at roughly 15% of properties in Hagerstown (mainly Hilton and Best Western). These can make stays more comfortable during high pollen (March-May).
- Save $15-25 per night on extended stays (7+ nights) by booking directly with economy suites or extended stay brands rather than third-party sites.
- For lower rates of theft and vandalism, stay in downtown or south Hagerstown. Incident rates are 2.3 times higher north of Md-67 beyond Fairfair Mall after dark (2023 Police Dept. data); check local crime stats if sensitive to area safety.
