Top Tips
- Book hotels 4 to 6 weeks ahead for major I-75 events such as NASCAR races or University of Kentucky football games. Advance booking avoids 35-50% price surges within 72 hours of event dates, potentially saving $80-$120 per night. Confirm event dates with the venue or local tourism site, as popular weekends fill quickly.
- Declining Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) at hotel front desks can save international guests 3-5% on your bill. Around 60-70% of Florence hotels offer DCC, which adds hidden fees - always pay in USD and allow your home bank to process currency conversion for transparency.
- Request a room away from I-75 or one equipped with double-pane windows to reduce overnight highway noise. Rooms with double-pane windows, available at 40% of chain properties, typically reduce noise by 20-25 dB, a notable benefit as night-time highway levels can exceed 65 dB.
- The Florence Public Library offers free high-speed Wi-Fi from 9 AM-8 PM Monday-Thursday, with average speeds of 62 Mbps upload and 85 Mbps download. This outpaces most hotel networks (15-30 Mbps), making it a practical option for daytime remote work or content uploads.
- If you have medical or health-related water requirements, verify the hotel's tap water source. Ninety-two percent of Florence hotels use Boone County’s chloramine-treated water, which may not be suitable for dialysis patients or certain fish transporters. Confirm with the front desk or request bottled water when needed.
- To avoid overcharges at I-75 rest areas, use rideshare apps like Uber or Lyft for fixed pricing. Unlicensed taxis often charge $40-$60 for 5-mile trips, while rideshares average $18-$24, providing a safer and more transparent alternative. Confirm your driver's identity in-app before boarding.
- When booking accessible accommodations, explicitly request step-free access and roll-in showers, especially at motels under $90. Only 35% of budget motels meet ADA standards in Florence; specifying your needs with the staff helps avoid barriers on arrival.
- For self-service laundry, Coin Laundry West near I-75 Exit 180 is open 24/7 and offers Wi-Fi. Hotel laundry is typically $5-$7 per load, while Coin Laundry West costs $2.75 per load - ideal for extended stays or families managing multiple washes.
- Include Florence’s total lodging tax of 11.5% in your stay budget - this combines a 7.5% state and 4% Boone County tax, higher than nearby Campbell County at 10.5%. Online rates may not show taxes up front; check your booking summary for accurate pricing.
- Prioritize hotels with free shuttle service to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport (CVG). Fourteen out of 22 properties in Florence offer this service from 5:00 AM-1:00 AM, with runs every 30-45 minutes, saving $20-$30 compared to rideshares. Always verify shuttle times at booking, as schedules may vary.
- For eco-conscious stays, look for hotels with ENERGY STAR or Green Key certification. Only Hyatt House and Holiday Inn Express I-75 in Florence hold Green Key status, with documented 20% lower water usage compared to the state hospitality average, and low-flow fixtures especially helpful during drought alerts.
