Top Tips
- For trips to Rockford under four days, use Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) for quick hotel transfers. Expect 15-25 minutes from downtown. Explore O'Hare (ORD) if you need more flight options, though travel time increases to 1.5-2 hours (85-90 miles).
- Book Allegiant flights from RFD early to access the lowest fares, but budget an extra $15-$45 per round-trip bag. Double-check baggage fees and seating options before purchase to avoid surprises.
- Driving is the most efficient way to see Rockford's top sites like Anderson Japanese Gardens. Expect drive times of 10-25 minutes from most chain hotels. Select hotels that offer complimentary parking and quick access to main roads.
- During local severe weather season (April-June), request a ground or interior room for safety. Upon arrival, ask hotel staff to point out emergency shelter areas for peace of mind.
- For major shows at Coronado Performing Arts Center, reserve River District hotels 4-8 weeks in advance. This secures room availability and may save you on event-night parking fees, often $15-$20 downtown.
- Most Rockford hotels near I-90 and in the suburbs include free onsite parking. If booking downtown, confirm daily or overnight rates in advance, as lots here may charge by the hour or per stay.
- Airport shuttles at Rockford hotels often require pre-arrangement and may not run 24/7. Call ahead to confirm your flight times align, or budget $15-$50 extra for cabs if needed outside scheduled service.
- If you need an accessible room or step-free shower, request specifics from the hotel prior to booking. Written confirmation ensures details like roll-in showers or visual alarms meet your needs at check-in.
