Fam of 4. Teenagers. Liked the location. My two boys are big and eat a lot so having the grocery store within walking distance was nice. The open BBQ area was awesome and always clean and ready. We saved money by cooking steaks every night at sunset.

I really appreciate our housekeeping. Staff was our housekeeper and she did an excellent job!
It was almost opulent. The room was well designed and clean. The pools were great. We enjoyed the Monday night live ukelele and single hula dancer music and the conch call to sunset.

Having a beach that you could walk right out to was very convenient. The snorkeling at this location was better than the snorkeling we paid $1000 for at another location. The bar at the pool was also nice to have. Kids swam while we sat and had drinks.

Staying at Napili Surf was like spending a week at your own private beach cottage. We chose this over the large hotels and are so glad we did! It made our 4oth Anniversary Celebration extra special, and we will be back! It was the best!

It is quaint older hotel that is right on the harbor in Kahului. It is one of the few remaining of this type. Plus, it gives some of us a break from the giant hotel corporations taking over the industry and charging over the top fees.

Top Tips
- Check your hotel's operational status and Front Street access before booking, as phased post-2023 wildfire recovery brings ongoing construction and shifting open dates. Confirm status and entry routes within 7 days of arrival for any late changes.
- Plan for combined island taxes: Transient Accommodations Tax (10.25%) and Hawaii’s General Excise Tax (about 4%) are added to your nightly rate, totaling around 14-15%. Review the tax breakdown in your reservation confirmation for accuracy.
- Anticipate daily resort or parking fees of $25-$50 at major Kāʻanapali and West Maui hotels; downtown Lahaina public parking is scarce, often metered, or time-limited. Confirm parking policies with your hotel before arrival.
- To protect your booking, choose refundable rates or travel insurance covering government orders and hotel closures, as last-minute disruptions remain possible during Maui’s recovery. Review coverage and refund terms prior to purchase.
- Book your hotel 60-90 days ahead for December to March whale season or major holidays, since occupancy surges and availability drops, especially during late December or Presidents’/Spring break weeks.
- If you rely on continuous power, such as for medical devices or remote work, ask if your hotel has onsite generators and water redundancies. Request rooms in buildings confirmed to have generator backup.
- If you have elite status, call your hotel to check if it waives resort or parking fees, as some major brands extend waivers to elite guests. Request written confirmation added to your reservation.
- Request courtyard or garden-facing rooms when booking near Front Street; these minimize noise from bars and nightlife after 9-11 PM and support restful nights.
- Kahului Airport (OGG) is about 30-35 miles (45-60 minutes by car) from most Lahaina hotels. Allow added time for rental car pickup and West Maui traffic, especially during peak hours.
- Before travel, check the latest Air Quality Index (AQI) for West Maui. If you’re sensitive to smoke or ash, ask hotels about current HEPA air filtration, HVAC maintenance, or in-room air purifiers.
- For reliable video calls or remote work, request measured in-room Wi-Fi speeds and ask about business lounges or high-floor interior rooms, since most hotels offer basic Wi-Fi for free and premium upgrades for a fee.
- If sustainability guides your choice, filter for Hawaii Green Business Program or EarthCheck-certified hotels. These listings use measured water and energy standards, so look for badges on booking sites or request program confirmation.
