The best thing about this hotel, was the location. We were able to walk through Helen without getting in our car and driving. The only time we needed the car was when we drove to the zoo.
Location, staff very friendly
It was in a great quiet location, but in walking distance to restaurants and shopping. The river behind the hotel was a big plus. It was so relaxing and comfortable being there. Our room was clean and spacious. Would definitely stay again.

Top Tips
- Reserve weekend accommodations 6-8 weeks ahead for mid-October visits to Clayton. Tallulah Gorge and Black Rock Mountain reach high occupancy during peak leaf season, so compare flexible and prepaid rates for your dates. Accessible or step-free rooms are limited; reserve early to secure one.
- Arrive before 9:00 AM to secure parking at Tallulah Gorge or Black Rock Mountain State Park; lots often fill by mid-morning on peak fall weekends. Ask your hotel if a shuttle or rideshare service is available to local parks for easier access. Travelers with accessibility needs should inquire about park facilities or accessible parking.
- Check whether your lodging provides municipal water or uses a private well. Most chain hotels in Clayton use municipal supplies, but confirm with your property if water quality or reliability is a priority. Guests with medical needs related to water should contact guest services in advance.
- Download offline maps before traveling along US-76 or into the national forest near Clayton, as mobile coverage is spotty on Forest Service roads. Hotel Wi-Fi usually covers property grounds but confirm before relying on navigation apps. Many hotels lend printed trail maps at the front desk.
- Ask your hotel about backup power or generator availability during severe weather. Rabun EMC outages may affect remote areas for several hours. Major chains usually have back-up power for essential areas, but verify policies if you need electricity for medical equipment. Consider reserving a room on a lower floor if elevator service may be impacted.
- Store food and trash securely to avoid attracting black bears, as the Georgia DNR confirms active bear populations in the region. If staying in a cabin or suite with a kitchen, use bear-resistant containers and dispose of trash in designated bins. Never feed wildlife, and keep doors or windows closed when not present.
- Request a step-free or accessible room when booking. Many Clayton lodgings, including historic inns, have stairs and limited elevator service. Major hotel chains offer ADA-compliant rooms, but availability can be limited during busy seasons—reserve as early as possible. Confirm specific accessibility features, like roll-in showers or visual alarms, directly with the property.
- Verify measured Wi-Fi speed (Mbps) and quiet-hours policies if you need reliable internet for remote work. Clayton hotels may not guarantee speeds above 10 Mbps, so ask the front desk for recent speed test results if strong connectivity is essential. Check if public computers or ethernet connections are available in the hotel business center.
