Close to Yosemite
I liked the location in town and the proximity to Yosemite. and it was quiet, no party in the hotel room shenigans from the guests. I was able to get some sleep. The coffee in the lobby was nicely balanced, it was not burnt and was always warm.

location & staff
The proximity to Canyon Express chairlift is terrific. You walk out the door of the motel fully dressed for skiing, and within five minutes you arrive at the base of the lift. No need to drive. Also the bar/restaurant downstairs is popular.

Top Tips
- Book Oakhurst hotels 3 to 6 months in advance for summer and holiday weekends, as rates typically rise 25-50% during peak Yosemite visitation periods. This advance booking window helps secure your preferred room type and pricing.
- Plan for a 45-75 minute drive from central Oakhurst to Yosemite Valley via CA-41; Yosemite National Park charges $35 per vehicle for a 7-day pass. Confirm required park entry passes and allow extra time for summer or holiday traffic.
- Wildfire smoke is possible June to October; check the Air Quality Index (AQI) on AirNow before your trip. Verify your hotel’s smoke or air quality refund policy in advance if you are sensitive to air conditions.
- During summer and fall, PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) may affect the area. Bring a battery pack of at least 20,000 mAh, and ask your hotel if it has a backup generator for power continuity.
- Most Oakhurst hotels provide free onsite parking. Arriving before 4-5 PM on busy dates increases your chance of securing a spot close to your room, especially for travelers with mobility needs.
- Charge your electric vehicle or refuel in Oakhurst before entering Yosemite, as public fast chargers are limited near the park’s south gateway. Confirm charging station availability in-app or with your hotel.
- Use loyalty benefits at major chains like Best Western Plus Yosemite Gateway Inn for perks such as points, complimentary breakfast, or late checkout that can offset online travel agency prices. Verify current rewards and room inclusions at booking.
- Buy groceries and perishables in Oakhurst before entering Yosemite, since in-park supplies are limited and often seasonal. Local supermarkets such as Raley’s or Vons offer a wider selection and stable hours.
- If mobility is a concern, request a ground-floor or step-free access room, as many older motels use exterior corridors and stairs. Confirm accessible room features, such as ramp access or visual alarms, when reserving.
- Wi-Fi speed and workspace setup vary; ask for typical Mbps and available in-room desk space if planning to work remotely. Some gateway properties advertise 'free Wi-Fi' that may be under 10 Mbps.
