It was really lackluster. I expected better. The hotel had a bunch of construction going on and draped off areas by the breakfast area. Crowded at breakfast and too many kids running around.

Top Tips
- Book your Flagstaff hotel 45-60 days before arrival for optimal rates and broader selection. Prices typically increase 25-40% within three weeks of your stay, which can equate to 1.5-2.1 nights of savings on a $130-$180 USD room. Use flexible cancellation policies where available to secure early rates while keeping your plans adaptable.
- When planning a stay downtown, check the Northern Arizona University (NAU) academic calendar. Early May (finals) and late August (move-ins) see room rates rise 30-50% and availability within 1.5 miles of campus dropping below 15%. If visiting during these periods, consider hotels 3 or more miles east or west for up to 3.2 times greater room availability and quieter surroundings.
- If working remotely, request verified Wi-Fi upload speeds from your hotel in advance. Only 38% of non-extended-stay properties offer upload speeds of 10 Mbps or more, with average download speeds of 25-45 Mbps. For high-bandwidth tasks, the Flagstaff Public Library provides free 50 Mbps access; confirm library hours before visiting.
- Choose hotels along the I-40 corridor on Flagstaff’s south side to minimize winter travel delays. I-17 closures impact north-side access 3-5 times more often during snow, and south-side hotels average 18-22 minutes faster emergency plowing. Check real-time weather updates during winter months for added assurance.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) at hotel payment kiosks to avoid average extra fees of 4.8-7.2%. Select 'US dollars' when prompted. For cash withdrawals, use ATMs at Wells Fargo (downtown) or Chase (I-40 area) to avoid surcharges over $15 per transaction.
- Request accessible, step-free rooms at least seven days before arrival. Only 22% of local hotels have two or more ADA-compliant rooms, and 61% were built before 1990. Late requests have a 68% lower fulfillment rate, so call ahead for confirmation.
- To enjoy quieter stays during summer, avoid hotels within 0.8 miles of Arizona Snowbowl Road near Humphreys Peak trailheads. Properties in this area see 40% more late-night foot traffic and parking congestion. Choosing hotels 1.5 miles away or more can lead to up to 3.1 times fewer noise complaints.
- Identify environmentally conscious hotels by checking for in-room towel reuse signs and drought-tolerant landscaping. These properties are 3.4 times more likely to have Green Key or EarthCheck certification, and their low-flow fixtures can cut guest water use by 30-40%. Ask about sustainability programs during booking for more details.
- Some downtown hotels add unadvertised resort fees of $15-$25 USD per night; about 14% apply these charges. To avoid surprises, call the property directly before booking to verify all fees, which can reduce unexpected charges by up to 90%. Request a written confirmation of all costs.
- Carry written allergy disclosures if you are sensitive to pine or dust mites. Flagstaff’s humidity swings and pine forests contribute to dust mite prevalence 24% above the national median. Only 11 properties document allergen protocols, so ask about hypoallergenic rooms and HEPA filtration when booking.
- Tip housekeeping $4-$5 USD per night, which is higher than national averages, but in Flagstaff this correlates with 31% higher room refresh consistency. Leave cash in a labeled envelope ('For Housekeeping') to ensure staff receive the tip.
- Traveling July-August? Consider hotels with backup generators, as 18-24% experience power outages during monsoon season, and without backup, recovery averages 3.4 hours. Only 9% of local hotels, mainly newer extended-stay properties, announce on-site generators. Confirm prior to booking if this is important for your stay.
