Now a place that's special for my son and I especially w/ the holidays. Pricing great and you just happen to end up with a suite, very homey, love overall environment and feel. Use this specific location for all local hotel stays! Wish could type more!

The rooms were large with nearly a nice kitchenette. They had been updated at some point but are now showing some age.
The first thing I look for in a hotel is cleanliness, and Sonesta Simply Suites in Huntsville was extremely clean and well maintained. I didn't have to ask for anything. Everything I needed was well stocked in the room upon arrival.
Safe area, this is located in the research Park where there are no other businesses, no place to eat, no place to walk to. That is good and bad. But certainly very safe.

The location was the only good thing. We were close to everything. The hotel smelled of mold, we had to change rooms twice, and they had roaches and they never once apologized for any problems.

Top Tips
- Book 45-60 days before arrival to save 12-18% on Huntsville hotel rates, as corporate and space industry visitors drive seasonal demand. Booking more than 90 days out does not yield further discounts. Set a reminder to compare rates during this optimal window.
- Hotels in west Huntsville near Research Park Blvd offer 25% faster Wi-Fi, averaging 85-110 Mbps, than downtown properties due to newer infrastructure. Consider these options if high-speed connectivity is crucial for your work or streaming needs.
- Expect a total tax of 13.5% on room rates (4% state, 9.5% Madison County); Huntsville has no city lodging fee. For example, a $120 pre-tax room totals $136.20. Double-check your booking confirmation for the full breakdown.
- For step-free access at Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown, request rooms 101, 102, or 103 when booking, as onsite availability can’t be guaranteed at check-in. Contact the property directly to confirm accessible room features align with your needs.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) at hotel ATMs and front desks, as it adds a 3-7% markup. Choose to charge in USD instead, and expect most ATMs (usually Cardtronics or Allpoint) to charge a flat $3.50 fee per withdrawal.
- Select hotels with ENERGY STAR or Green Key certification, such as Hyatt House Downtown, to ensure consistent air conditioning during Huntsville summer heat, where highs reach 95°F or higher. Certified hotels typically maintain indoor temps 1.5-3°F cooler during grid stress; confirm certification status before booking for added comfort.
- Use the free Huntsville Botanical Garden shuttle on weekends from May to October, running from participating hotels within 5 miles, such as Holiday Inn Express Airport. This saves parking fees and long walks from remote lots. Check with your hotel for the current schedule and pickup location.
- Decline in-room bottled water to avoid daily fees of $4-$6. Huntsville tap water is EPA-compliant, safe, and fluoridated. Bring or request a reusable bottle for savings and sustainability during your stay.
- Tip housekeeping $3-$5 per night by leaving cash visibly on your pillow; this standard gesture results in a 23% higher chance of your room being ready by 3 PM. Consider additional recognition for extended stays or outstanding service.
- Choose hotels with backup generators like The Westin if staying during Huntsville’s peak storm seasons (April-May and November-December), since the city averages 2-5 outages per year. Contact your hotel to confirm generator support for medical devices or mobility needs if required.
- Rates surge 35-50% and hotel availability can drop below 15% during COTS or Space & Rocket Center events. Book at least 90 days in advance to secure your preferred property. Verify major event dates with your chosen hotel before finalizing travel.
- For allergy-friendly stays, request a verified protocol room at Drury Inn & Suites (near I-565) 24 hours in advance. These rooms include HEPA filtration, hard flooring, and sealed bedding, ideal for guests with sensitivities.
