Clean room and friendly staff
The location was perfect (nearest airport). The staff were very knowledgeable of things to do and see, and so very friendly. The breakfast was perfect, since I don't eat much in morons anyway (oatmeal, toast, pastries, coffee/tea), cereals to choose from.

Top Tips
- Secure Soldotna hotel bookings 60-90 days ahead if staying between mid-May and July. Salmon season sharply increases demand, and group charters may reserve entire blocks, causing rates to rise 15-30% and frequent sellouts. Check hotel booking cutoff dates to guarantee room availability during peak weeks.
- Confirm trailer and boat parking policies before reserving. Some hotels limit onsite trailer spaces or apply nightly fees of $15. Ask whether public ramp parking is required if the hotel lot is full, and document any parking confirmation for arrival.
- Expect early Kenai River charter departures (4:00-5:30 AM); hotel breakfast hours and check-in times may not match. Arrange an early check-in, hold luggage at the desk, or request a packed breakfast the day before to avoid delays at meeting points.
- Review your hotel folio for local lodging taxes and fees. Soldotna typically applies a combined city and borough tax of 6-8% on room rates, which varies by municipality. Confirm your estimated total ahead to avoid check-out surprises.
- Hotel room inventories in Soldotna are limited, with many inns and lodges offering under 40 rooms. Single groups often block multiple rooms during fishing season, so ask directly about minimum stay rules or stricter cancellation and group booking policies before payment.
- Cellular coverage varies along the Kenai Peninsula. GCI and AT&T generally provide stronger signals than other carriers outside Soldotna’s main area. For consistent access, test your service or use a portable hotspot if traveling beyond town limits.
- If planning to fish, request a room with an in-room fridge and check for a covered area to dry wet waders and gear, since most hotels do not offer laundry facilities. Storing and drying fishing equipment inside can prevent damage fees; confirm space on booking.
- May and September in Soldotna see daily temperatures from 30-55°F (-1 to 13°C) and frequent drizzle. Pack layered waterproof clothing and rubber boots to stay dry on early outings and evening walks. Many hotels loan umbrellas or keep boot dryers on request, so ask in advance.
- Many older Soldotna motels lack step-free access or fully accessible rooms. Always call the front desk in advance to confirm door widths, available ground-floor rooms, grab bars, and visual alarms, as online listings may not reflect actual accessibility features.
