Pros +
- The location was absolutely beautiful, staff was very friendly, and the rooms were comfortable and spacious. We thoroughly enjoyed the horse back ride and the spa was such a treat. We also enjoyed everything we had to eat on site.
- When I was disappointed with the view from my room, front desk staff Hannah and Melissa kindly helped me move to a much nicer room. The room was well-furnished and indeed had a lovely unimpeded view of nearby mountains and cottonwood trees in full fall color (yellow). The resort is in a secluded area adjacent to the Rio Grande but very convenient for downtown Albuquerque.
- Beautiful location to escape the city, in the city. The walking paths through the trees were peaceful and relaxing.
Cons -
- Minor inconveniences occurred like restaurants being out of some ingredients or dishes and the spa not being able to accommodate our first choices of services although we had booked 48 hours in advance as recommended.
- Only one restaurant and a bar seemed to be open, possibly because convention attendees had their own meal arrangements. Most of the rooms are a long distance from Reception, restaurants, and activities, and many of the rooms lack a good view. The original resort design could have been better. (I actually designed and built a 5-star resort in Asia, Plantation Bay, “a Real Resort with a Real Spa”. I solved this problem by making my resort more like a village, with views and facilities spread out (see map at bottom of https://plantationbay.com/activities).
- The amazing hot tub with steaming water cascading over the rocks would have been great in the adult pool area. Screaming kids, splashing and playing kind of killed the vibe.

The setting and decor was perfectly evocative of the southwest and New Mexico. Staff was always friendly and helpful. Food was a little limited in choice and satisfactory but I would not rate it as high as the rest of the resort, especially the breakfast choices and preparations.
